2026 Sharks Discussion

I don't really see where plan A failed against the roosters.

It was giving up a big possession swing on a hot day with a shorter turn around that let them keep waltzing down the field and eventually scoring. High tackles and other dumb penalties letting them have all the ball beat us, not us playing exactly the same as the first half but they figured out how to defend it.

45-55 possession split - flip that and flip the result.

Even Rabbitohs when they nearly came back against Raiders stuck with plan A - attack around Latrell down their dominant left side.
On top of katoa being found out of position, our fullback getting involved in a tackle on the opposite side of the field on the second last tackle of the half, so being out of position for the walker kick. The two dropped intercept chances. Thats 4 game changing opportunities that don't revolve around nicho
Not to mention our second rowers missing 20 tackles.
All that stuff compounds on any day let alone a hot day

Those two dropped intercepts I think either sandwiched or were immediately followed by a kick straight to Trindall which he dropped.
3 chances (admittedly, not perfect, simple chances) fell to the ground in a pretty short space of time there. Two would have been a good shout to score, or at least go deep down field, the other probably make decent meters and relieve pressure at least.

One of two of those balls sticking would have made a big difference... much like any number of other small changes.

But yeah, things like you mention are why I don't really see how Nicho or the game plan let us down.

Moses plays in a crap football team.
Gets an easy pass on this alone.
still would have more SOO games than our team. 35 for them an at least 14 aus caps

doesnt explain why his goal kicking is worse 72 compared to 80 %
and why his tackling is worse. he has played in some good sides at parra and still only has a career win rate of 50%
would you be happy with around 20 try assists over the last 3 seasons if you paid nicho 1.3 mill

This season the Warriors are getting an extremely favourable whistle, where they are +29 in net penalties (awarded minus conceded). Interestingly the Sharks were top of this category in 2025 (+16) but are dead last now at -24.

I honestly don't think we need any different players; they just need to take this **** personally.

Toby has been running off the back fence already. AFB has the potential to be a beast, and we've already seen the aggression we want from Teig, Nikora, Talakai and BHU. I have no doubt JC and Burns can find it, too.

Honestly, get Gal down to training off the back of his blue catch-up and rev them up about how the whole league community thinks they are soft.
I think Teig has the most potential to be that type of player. He loves an old fashion (and almost always illegal these days...) rush up, smash'em style tackle. Nikora has it in him, but you don't see it often enough. I'd agree JC and Burns do too, and with more experience could get a lot better at using it.

Nikora has been suspended a few times so I wouldn't be surprised if he's dialed it back a bit

Rightly or unfairly this felt extremely evident in the roosters game. We just could never get anything going before we gave away a penalty again (with a normal-ish) amount of dropped balls sprinkled in there.

Graphs are dumb mate. Don't you know that already? Rugby League can only be measured on oomph, guts and mongrel.

This is insane...

When including penalties, an infringement is called every 15.0 play the balls
