Match 2026 Round 18 - Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks vs Brisbane Broncos - 7:35pm, Saturday 4 July @ Suncorp Stadium

Match threads
There are some people on this forum that should walk out right now onto their front porch as an alien spaceship is landing and ready to abduct them.

Seriously I have not read so much dribble as in the last year or so from those who would have us believe such ridiculous arguments.
You seem to put yourself up on some pedestal where any opinion that doesn't align with yours needs to be ridiculed.

Yet they bought a hotel in our ground. They've have numerous opportunities to flick us yet haven't. Settle down with the right wing conspiracy theories.
Sure we have no other option but the NRL and they are doing a good job of running their business. But these penalty stats are getting ridiculous and embarrassing for them. And apparently all it takes is for Robbo to bring it up in the media and it can all turn around in a weekend. Hell the game can totally change at half time these days. But the NRL needs to maintain some sort of credibility. It's actually important for the business. The issue of the reffing and game management is a wider issue around the league among the fans. The fact we have had I think 80 less penalties than the Warriors and have beaten them twice is pretty incredible or uncredible even.

You know Brisbane are the most penalised team in the comp, right? You realise they're probably the most important club in the game. How do you explain that?

They might be the most penalised.

But we have the worst differential by far. Surprised Fitz hasn't pulled them into line, because it keeps continuining. It's seemingly worse this year than all previous years as well.

For clarification, no there is no corruption, no WWE bullshit.

But we are now in the Roosters territory where the identity as an ill disciplined side will be self sustaining.

But we receive less penalties than anyone so our differential penalties for and against is far worse. My argument is simply that last year up until origin and the baby Roosters game we were the least penalised team and rolling. Then Robbo whinged in the media and everything changed. Why was that? Why don't we all whinge about it and get it changed because statistically it is getting beyond ridiculous.IMG_5934.jpeg

They won a premiership last year which was significantly managed really. Every Canberra fan in particular was whinging about it. I was arguing last year on other forums that the NRL was getting sick of the Panther ball and the ruck battle game of Melbourne and they were tweaking the game to be more open and exciting. Leading into the finals I thought they demographically wanted a record breaking Brisbane Melbourne GF leading in to the money deal where the open attacking style of Brisbane would win. That was exactly what happened.

This I agree with
If the refs go into games thinking the sharks give away a lot of penalties, it gets very easy to assume the slightest thing was a penalty.

In saying that, plenty of our penalties were deserved. If we don’t like the reputation we shouldn’t so readily contribute to it.

I don't know about the rest of this but I agree with the bold. Brisbane were a bad team for most of last season then rode some very favourable officiating and MRC decisions all the way to the finish line. Walsh not being suspended because it's "not fair on him" was up there with "it's Feki's fault" for me. Will Kennedy got a week for the ref running in to him and Walsh hasn't missed a game yet for two headbutts and about a dozen shoulder charges.

Keary is unreal. I like Cronk too. The only issue for Cronk is he's just not an engaging speaker. He's insightful and asks good questions though.
Cronk had a great question to Hunt last night after the game: "Are you sure you want to run around again next year?"

Hunt was terrible last night. I know age can slow you up a bit, but most of his passes went behind the runner.

Btw - that pass he did that led to one of their tries (where just handed to ball to another player)- was I the only one that thought he handed it forward?

I’d prefer he have a a few words to our players who he is a chance of controlling or limiting the penalties with first.
Once we or he does that, let’s then look @ the NRL.
Agree. There are a lot of dumb things we do each game which we have direct control over.

If the NRL were in the business of manipulating the results to grow the game there’s no way you’d have the same team winning 4 premierships in a row. You also wouldn’t have a popular team consistently competing for the spoon. Semis involving the Tigers would earn the NRL **** loads of money.

Boooo. Nobody likes the Logic Police!

It think I've identified the problem. They aren't meant to competing for it.

I don't think the NRL are in the business of manipulating results but they are definitely in the business of special treatment for star players. I reckon Walsh or Crichton could shiv a bloke and get off with $1,500 fine.

The worst thing is that this fan base goes into games expecting that we are the least disciplined side in the comp and the club is some sort of incomprehensible Bermuda triangle of incompetent loser boobs shooting ourselves in the foot every week. I don't buy it. And they sit there game day watching the ref silently shaft us. Other fan bases give the refs a hard time, at Brookvale, Souths, Roosters the fans stand up. Not us.

We point the finger at our own loser history, our soft culture and our own players, the coach, Harold Holt whatever. It simply doesn't appear justified. And it never was. We are now 2 penalties a game worse off than the average, after last night our differential is now almost 3 times worse than the next worst team the Broncos. We are nearly 4 penalties a game worse off than the Warriors whose fan base nevertheless still believes they are getting shafted every week. That alone massively effects our top 4 chances, our for and against as well as our win losses. And that ignores whatever is going on with 6 agains, 50-50 knock ons, ruck errors, forward passes, ignored escorts etc etc as well as the freaking bunker which every fan in the game believes are a blatant rort anyway.

This wild statistical anomaly is just another blip in a wider context of lack of credibility in the league around rule changes, opaque officiating, game management, SOO fiascos and gambling that the NRL clearly is and needs to be sensitive to. And it can pretty much be changed overnight because Robbo got it changed overnight last year by putting it in the media. It changed overnight when the perception became too prevalent that the Dogs were being reffed soft and the Broncos weren't getting a fair go.

If the club is to have a chance at top 4 and a possible GF questions need to be asked which you have done by putting the info up there. I'm just carrying on like an idiot trying to stir up our self flagellating NRL apologist fanbase to stick up for the club and our players for once.
