Official 2026 NRL General Discussion

Am I alone in thinking that the Erin Clarke penalty try was ridiculous not only because the alleged infringement was laughable but because Tricky had grounded the ball anyway?
No mate, you’re not alone at all. I’d love to see an interview where Atkins explains why he made that decision.
The NRL has to stop getting the Bunker involved in so many tries, if the referee awards a fair try, no try they've got to stop getting the bunker involved, confirming every single try. If the referee isn't sure why can't they start what was years ago called the "Video referee" which was fair enough.

As Cap put it mate, you can’t have it both ways. I will admit I hate not being able to properly celebrate a try being scored until the bunker confirms it but I guess I would prefer it to a world where a try is awarded against us that was in no way a try.

they review every try once awarded.
what i hate is they look at it 30 times then decide they will review it, then start reviwing it again. if they find something just say try or no try, no need for the ref to do the box thingy. so much time is wasted on simple decisions

Yeah it's obviously about theatre, I don't like it, either.

Kyle Flanagan in line for shock Dragons return as recruit Daniel Atkinson faces the axe

Kyle Flanagan will be parachuted into the Dragons’ No.7 jersey just two weeks after suffering a heavy concussion, leaving recruit Daniel Atkinson fighting for his starting spot.

Blood certainly is thicker than water !!

I watched Atko a bit this weekend and he wasn’t great , think he’s best suited not being the main man.

I wasn’t too sad to see him go, certainly not at the expense of Hynes or Trindall

On the Dragons. Flanno has never been a good recruiter with out help and signing Atko a year ahead and then dropping him would be a panic move

If we're being honest, Flanno probably would never have landed some of the names we got without Gallen's help.

And no, I'm not dismissing the positive impact of the gym re-tiling or the purchase of a boxing ring outright.

There's no doubt about that.

creativity wise no but if you have the right players around him, he is a guy that can get you around the park and kick to points that will keep you in the contest for the other creative players to do their thing.
look who is in the spine with him
cook and guthbo are done then its either kyle or the young kid. tou put prime cuthbo and cook in there and he looks a whole lot better

Unfortunately nepo kyle and Atko aren’t good enough to drag the rest up to a competitive level but there’s no point pretending they are the problem if there’s nobody better.
Maybe the young guy is good but every chance Flanno is right and he’s not physically up for it yet.
Only played 4 games against men and is lighter than Galvin or Strange (who are more an exception than a rule)

We put players around Atko that positioned him to beat Melbourne in Melbourne. Unless Cleary put his hand up to join the Red V that might be a more realistic path forward for them. Flanju had a 65% win percentage at the roosters.

Sloan not learning from Gutho is unfortunate for them. Him gaining some Gutho traits could have been huge and made it much easier to repurpose old man Gutho now

The Dragons are playing the Sea Eagles this Friday. A loss there would be their 10th consecutive (accounting for last year's end of season results).
Then they're facing South, Roosters, Bye (tough ask), Knights and Penrith.

The roster, the results, the way they're playing are reminiscent of the worst of Newcastle & Wests in recent years.

Barring a miracle, Flanno will be gone by then.

This club is in a hole so deep, they're (hopefully) going to suck for a long time.

I would find it hilarious if they kept losing but they should persevere with Flanno unless a guaranteed better option comes up imo.

Yep. Their roster is terrible, you can't turn that around quickly, going to take years.

The problem for Flanno is that he's responsible for many (most?) of the signings. I know that SGI hasn't been an attractive destination for a while now, but it doesn't help his case.

It's tough when very few want to go there, it's not as if he hasn't been trying to sign good players. I know he signed Gutho to drive culture but it was so obvious he was cooked when they signed him, and they've got him for another year yet.
