Not really 'NRL' but the NRL WA comp 1st Grade is growing from 6 teams to 10 this season

Good growth in the sport considering there was about 30% or something of senior players not re-register following COVID. I think that would be when Kalamunda dropped out of first grade. Don't think the other three have been - all newer clubs that started just in lower senior grades and with juniors.

10 Clubs have declared their intention to play in the Fuel To Go & Play Premiership First Grade Competition in 2026!
Welcome Ellenbrook, Kalamunda, Kwinana and Alkimos who are all making the leap together.

Just been looking through the nrl teams forward packs for next season and in all seriousness, if the dolphins have luck with injuries they will be fielding imo a top 5 pack for next season.

8. Flegler
9. Marshall-King
10. Saifiti
11. Gilbert
12. Finefeuiaki
13. Plath

14. Donoghue
15. Lemuele
16. Molo
17. Knowles

18. Kaufusi
19. Stone

I don't think Gilberts an edge hey, but it's hard as you need to find minutes for both him and Plath.

I think you'll find Flegler starts off the bench for a while with Gilbert at prop.

The Kangaroos will be without another superstar outside back for next year’s rugby league World Cup after Valentine Holmes confirmed that he would represent the Cook Islands at the 2026 showpiece event.

Holmes won two World Cups with Australia and famously scored six tries against Fiji in the semi-finals back in 2017.

But the 30-year-old has pledged his allegiance to the Cook Islands after they qualified for the World Cup with a dominant win over South Africa earlier this month.

Interesting part of that (if I'm understanding it correctly), is super and health insurance are both "taken out" of the player's listed contract value.

So if you were getting $200,000 a year, that would be something like $178.5K + super. I imagine the health insurance would be pretty expensive. I don't know if it would cover the major surgeries, or if clubs cover that (I know we do cover some medical costs, as it has come up in AGM finances before).

Also interesting they get paid monthly... you'd think for young players, it should be fortnightly at most.

I think edge may be his new spot, before his injury he was set to be handed the 12 jersey for qld for origin 1. Will be interesting to see their listed side for round 1.

I thought the relocation fee being outside the cap was interesting too. As it should be.

Yeah I just don't see it. The better edges are more dynamic and skillful, Gilbert is an awesome workhorse who is suited to the middle IMO.

So with R360 falling through Zac and Ryan Paps have been cleared to return to NRL.

Apparently they both have the same manager (Clinton Schifcofske). What a stuff up to be the first player agent to get your clients released only for them to have to fall on their swords.

Not a good endorsement for good old Clinton.

Yes insurances, plus managers fee and tax which is 45 cents per dollar on the bracket they are earning out of that contract.

A $600k contract is only worth just over $300k to them really. I know we all pay tax and they can still make good money but it’s not as great as everyone makes out sometimes, like they are on millions their whole career. It also may take majority of their career before they finally get that one good $600k contract.

You gotta wonder if the clubs will want them back or if they sign elsewhere.

I think Melbourne might have been happy to see the back of Paps actually. They appear to be all in on Fa’alongo.

As for Lomax and Parra, well Parra have already shown they don’t mind being cucked, hence the Pezet deal, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they took him back like nothing happened.

They've explained why they signed Pezet for a year, it makes sense to me.

To buy time for Fletcher or Talataina? Eh, im not sold that was the plan going into this deal. I get it is now and who knows, it might work. But I don’t think they went into that Pezet deal with the plan to sign a one year deal. That excuse seemed to be a way for them to save face in light of the trolling.

If Fletcher or Talatina turn out to be gems, then good on them. Bloody big if though.

Lachlan Croker's medical retirement has been made official
Will move into coaching at Manly and look after their sg ball team this year

Makes sense to me, too.
With the footy nouse Pezet apparently has, he could be instrumental in helping set up Parra's structures with his replacement so that they have a walk up start to the season following.
