Shame they couldn’t get another game or 2 as curtain raisers to the NRL games.
I've heard a few female athletes from various sports say they don't like being the curtain raiser to men's games, they want to stand alone.

I can see why they feel that way.

Pros and cons to both and may depend on timing also. Probably better to curtain raise a Sunday arvo game then the first game Friday.

For decent time slots I wonder what gets more eyes on games - people attending a stand-alone or people going to NRL game a bit earlier to watch

Yeah Fair.

Others like it as the crowds tend to be larger (generally) as does the atmosphere

I can see advantages and disadvantages for the ladies in both scenarios.

Although I’d prefer some type of curtain raiser if not NRLW (ressies or U21’s etc) before an NRL match.

As a supporter, Makes it feel like value for money and get to see the up and coming players before the main event

100% agree and not finishing one hour before NRL kick-off.

I guess the 1 hour might be necessary to check over the ground for quick repairs and allow sufficient warm up time???

It's just for warm up time. Pretty sure they could get the gap shorter though, it's the reason I don't go to watch it.

Yet another reason why Redcliffe is the best place to watch footy. Warm-up/junior fields out the back, so games can be back to back :)

Pretty much what Shark Park used to be.

Need to start building stadiums with underground warm-up areas.

If the Women want to grow NRLW and play at the better mainstream footy stadiums then they need to remain as curtain raiser games. This is their best chance to showcase their game and win over new fans that otherwise would not have watched or known about it.

It gives the average NRL fan exposure to the Womens game and gets them talking about it, whether it is positive or negative they are talking about it, at the game, on social media ect. The brand starts to build a profile in the public and private domains.

They have an entertaining product (I know this because of curtain raisers) due to essentially more space being on the field and more gaps to run through. Although the quality and professionalism should continue to improve over time there is still stuff happening on field that you wouldn't see at a schoolboys game. Same in Womens soccer ect.

Paying for another lot of ground and hospitality staff to come in on a separate day to host the Womens game at a stadium is unrealistic. Ticket prices would have to be high enough to support this otherwise the NRL is subsidising (which they already would be in other areas of NRLW)

I bet you the mens reggies and youth teams would prefer to be a curtain raiser to an NRL game than playing out the back of bum fk nowhere in front of a handful of liquored up die hards.

I don't think the Womens game being a curtain raises is disrespectful or cheapens the product - I think it actually adds value to it.

They should also be mindful that NRLW fans are likely also NRL fans. They might not have the time or money to attend 2 games on different days or at different venues.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to stand on your own and I understand that desire but they are no where near that stage yet, need they to build towards it long term and get alot more things in place.

If they want to expedite this don't complain and blame it on the system when 50 people show up to your games and not enough interest and revenue is being generated for the sport to be self sustainable and they can forget ever getting paid anywhere near what the men do unless the governing body is willing to take a massive hit financially.

Alot of activist types scream for Professional Womens comps and these are put in place... ....and then no one ****ING goes and watches them! Especially not the loud moral posturing types pushing for their twisted vision of "equality"

The reality is that Womens domestic team sports are not well supported relative to Mens - Take a look at Womens A League crowds for instance. They would be lucky to be averaging around 1,000 people per game, some crowds are as low as 200 people.

And this is for a competition far more established than NRLW and for a sport with more mainstream appeal.

This isn't about sticking the knife in - it's about being realistic.
It's because I do actually want to see the NRLW grow and be successful. That is good for the game and all it's fans and players as a whole.

The Jets players would rather play before an NRL game at Shark Park than Henson where they regularly get approximately 8,972 fans?

I actually don't know the answer to this, likely different between different people.

A 'true' reggies team though I do expect most would rather play before the main game.

The crowd figure is not what I would call a joke, it's more of a tribute to the last time the Jets played there as a first grade side.
Didn't it happen a few years after the were kicked out?

Thanks. Tayla Preston is obviously sharks in the nrlw so not sure if it's just not updated or maybe it's based on the Harvey Norman women's comp or whatever.

Edit: actually der. North Sydney bears and Illawarra steelers.
