Wonder what would happen if we did go alone. Does Newtown stay in the comp?
Would be a real shame to lose Newtown. No reason we both couldn’t be in the comp. would image it depends on licences or whatever. Wouldn’t we have to apply to be in the comp?Wonder what would happen if we did go alone. Does Newtown stay in the comp?
No idea how it works mate.Would be a real shame to lose Newtown. No reason we both couldn’t be in the comp. would image it depends on licences or whatever. Wouldn’t we have to apply to be in the comp?
There's also only so many teams available to be affiliated that aren't under an NRL club banner - so only a few opportunities to do it.Thanks. How come the other teams do not do it this way?
I think if we went alone Newtown would still stick around, potentially affiliate themselves with another like they were with the Roosters for a bit.Would be a real shame to lose Newtown. Thank you (@Proud Shark too). There's also only so many teams available to be affiliated that aren't under an NRL club banner - so only a few opportunities to do it.
There's pros and cons too it as Proud mentioned, and hard to know exactly how much control we get in team selections. I imagine we get a good say but might not be full control.
I like that we're with The Jets but if we want to be a full development club like the Panthers maybe we have to go alone. That comes at a cost so not sure that will happen anytime soon.
I think Matterson has spoken of retirement so we might install a Sharks affiliated coach potentially ?
Give round 1 to the Tigers so they can be 9th for a week.Anyone else expecting us to get the dreaded round 1 or 2 bye next year ?
Thanks. How come the other teams do not do it this way?
From the 16 NRL teams from 2022...I'm not overly sure of the ins and outs but there are pros and cons.
We have less control over team selections, we don't get home games etc. On the plus side its a huge cost reduction.
I guess that's the perfect situation for a team who was short on cash. If you're a rich club though you'd rather have full control.
Thank you @burgess1978.From the 16 NRL teams from 2022...
Between 2018 and 2022, there were only six teams who have maintained a club-owned feeder in the relevant competition during this time (Panthers, Dragons, Bulldogs, Knights, Tigers, *Storm).
So using a non-club-controlled team is actually the norm.
Dolphins will split players between three different Q-Cup feeders. Redcliffe, Central Qld, and PNG Hunters - but since it is Bennett he'll have complete control of where each of his guys will play (there have been several Q-Cup coaches from Broncos feeders in the past who have had run-ins with Bennett for not playing guys where Bennett wanted them).
* The Storm split players between two Q-Cup teams; one of which they own and control, and one which they don't.
Might become a feeder side for Melbourne. Does that weird relationship still exist?Wonder what would happen if we did go alone. Does Newtown stay in the comp?
Maybe they have more money than us? Other than that got no idea.Thanks. How come the other teams do not do it this way?

Yeah but there must be a limit, imagine if every NRL club went alone, don't see how they could all of a sudden have like 26 teams or whatever. You can have more than one if you want to.
The Mounties are currently a feeder club for the Bulldogs who have their own NSW cup team
This is ideal, but it costs a lot more.I would love us to go back to our own ressies team and let them play before the first grade. Just feel having a fully Sharks controlled Reserves set up playing Cronulla brand football, coached by someone hopefully hand picked by Fitz in front of a growing crowd at Shark Park before the main event would make the transition from reserves into our first grade set up easier.
But if we stick with the Jets im not overly fussed, its been a mostly beneficial partnership.
What does Cronulla brand football even mean these days ? What’s our trademark ?I would love us to go back to our own ressies team and let them play before the first grade. Next man up is all good for a bit and I'm sure they'll adapt their style but Api is hard replacement. Next man up mentality is great but it won't give the craftyness out of 9 that allows Yeo & Cleary the time & space they enjoy nor will it make their new left edge Kikau replacement a 6'5" 116kg behemoth.Penrith have that next up mentality. I can’t see them dropping off anytime soon, especially after winning every grade GF so far.
I wonder if there will be a case in the future where we’d be allowed to have the same level of control over Newtown, probably not hey? It’s not ideal but with the money that’s being saved it’s understandable. This is ideal, but it costs a lot more.
Melbourne have full control of Sunshine Coast. The coaches are Storm employees, Bellamy says which Storm players are selected where, and they play the same systems as the Storm. It costs them a pretty penny tough.
