Well stop the clock for goalkicks if that's what you're worried about. It's part of the fabric of the game, leave it alone.

More than happy for them to stop the clock for goal kicks, it was suggested decades ago in the media after they anaylsed the significant amount of game time being lost.

I still think there should be a more aggressive shot clock though to push things along.

Remember Luke Covell having a penalty goal from close to in front and intentionally chewing up time and then missing on purpose to avoid accidentally hitting the post and having the ball back in play?

Great tactics from sticky but f me that was cynical negative play and a **** of a way for an opposition and it's fans to lose a game.

The Raiders a few seasons ago played us at home and closed the game out in the second half by taking penalty goals against us. They didn't really need the 2 points on the scoreboard but simply did it to waste like 2-3 mins of game time on each occasion. They used the clock to beat us instead of doing it on the field. The penalty goal in those situations is essentially worth more than the 2 points to the team leading.

We were still in that game until we had to watch Jarrod croker standing around near a kicking tee

Don't give away penalties? Sure, but not the point I am making

Some things in the fabric are worth tearing at

You mean like contested scrums, cornerposts, and kicking over the sideline to give your forwards a rest?

The don’t give a toss about the fabric of the game mate. They care about what makes it look better on TV.

Exactly, they have been messing with the game for many years, alot of changes for the worse, dumbing the game down in the interests of speeding it up or making it more simple. Why not make some positive quick win changes that potentially adds to the games excitement and credibility and value for fans.

The broadcasters can adjust their time slots accordingly if they have to factor in more game clock stoppages. heck they can cram more adds in if they want

The ULTIMATE miss 😀

Wayne Bartram from in front vs. Sharks - I will never forget . Hilarious, I cheered like me scored a try

More than 1 way to win a game. Nothing wrong with that. They're not all gonna be 8 try action packed turn outs and that's ok.

Making "some positive quick win changes that potentially adds to the games excitement" is exactly what they were attempting but as you admit most have been bad. The corner post change was the only good one. Put your hands in your pockets and stop fiddling.

I'm okay with losing contested scrums too, they sound good in principle then you see what Union scrums have descended into...
Give the teams a different look to attack from too, sometimes you even get a neat play...

Yeah I hardly remember contested scrums in League & what I've seen of Union's I don't think we're missing out.

Love how the kids think spirit fingers makes a difference... Ah, I mean how they know it does...
I guess now we know why we lost all those games on goal kicking in 2019.

Sparkles isn’t putting in boys.

Ease up lads. It's not his fault. He accidentally drank a 0% beer once. Hasn't been the same since.

The point is making quick changes that are simple and actually good and beneficial to the game. The other stuff the NRL has tried has been hit and miss, at worst haphazardness, poorly researched/implemented. Some have been good like the 40/20

I see no drawbacks at all from simply stopping the clock when the ball is out of play or goal kicks are being lined up.
Standing on the hill as a fan while a kicker winds down the game clock sucks

The irony in the NRL wanting to speed up the game and make it more exciting is that we still have long breaks in play for video refs, goal kicking ect.

And if I wanna put my hands in my pockets and have a fiddle I will sir

I was watching some older games with contested scrums, 5m rule ect and honestly I thought it was a better game. There was more creativity and unpredictability on show and more defined roles and responsibilities for each position. Field position and the fight you had to make to earn it was more satisfying to watch. Momentum could swing in more ways. I think it's a better contest.

Now the game seems to be played in each teams 20m zone and quick PTBs are more important than good strong metre gaining running or creative play.

No doubt there were alot of stinker games under the old rulesets as well so not saying it's all good.

Union scrums and rucks are a different beast

The 2022 season is only weeks away now and for us Sharks fans the expectations are high and we are all keen to see how our new recruits go.

We all know Fitz is defence oriented, so hopefully that will steel up our defence (Steve Price will also help) but what about our attack?

How will we play? Have we seen the end of the predictable inside balls and easy to read decoy plays?

Will our players be more attuned to supporting line breaks and have the energy and drive we all crave?

Let us all know your thoughts, what do you think our new playing style will be like?

Simple answer is a bit more fine tuning in our already very dangerous attack and some fire and brimstone installed into our defence. Easy.

Currently I’m thinking swap Moylan and trindall and Talakai in for Wilton
But trials may change that
Agreed mate, although I'd love to see Hunt in there too but I understand he will probably need some time to get up to speed.

Should get some good minutes over next couple trials to make a case for himself
