From the presser...

Soft defence and poor discipline cost us... onlt played for 40 mins.

BHU has done a pec, Nikora should be back for next week. A bit coy on Wade being back next week.

This game really sums up why I didn’t watch last year. The players taught to play for penalties, refs with their interpretations of the rules, rules that are new to stop players purposely breaking the rules.

At least we are enjoyable to watch this year.

It’s amazing we completed so well but of the few mistakes we made, they were at crucial times. The one that hurt most of course was the one by Jack Williams. He has one in him every match and they’re nearly always costly. On the next set of six Grant scores. By the way, I don’t think we held him up long enough, fair try I think. You’d all be spewing if it was us and it wasn’t given.

I agree with most on here though that Atkins let Melbourne have too much in the ruck. Haven’t seen any stats but don’t remember them being penalised much for it. Seemed to be screaming at us to get off all the time.

Despite the fact we went with them for long periods, we had too many brain explosions in defence to get on top. When it seemed like we were back within reach, they went another level.

The Manly game is going to be tough, the turnaround is the same for them but we’ll have no BHU, and Nikora, Wade and Dale are all doubtful. Kennedy also didn’t look good.

Toby played 55 minutes, Uele played 34 minutes. Why is that?

Yeah I thought they deserved more; BHU cut short with injury??

but toby had 4 missed tackles from 28
10 hit ups for 93 m
1 error

I thought he was playing very well. I thought he was definitely well over 100 m; and more tackles than that

Toby was our best forward. When he went off, our forwards were beat.

Dale going off early meant all the forwards workloads went up and you can't expect Tolman to carry the entire weight of that himself , as good as an effort he made in defense but our blokes looked more fatigued in the back end than at any other point of a game this season.

It was a small glimpse of some 2021 like defense but not for lack of effort or structure, we were just buggered and didn't handle having different players in positions as well as perhaps we could.

Storm also matched us playing an up tempo game with the ball and were sharp around the ruck in particular with their dummies, runs, offloads ect.

No Nikora and Katoa really messed with our defense on that side of the field as well

We had a red hot crack, played some good footy, never gave up and had some bad luck with injuries, refs ect. We will still be top 4 by the end of the round and be better prepared for the Storm next time.

Lets be happy that despite being a work in progress we are already a good competitive team that is entertaining to watch and that still has bucketloads of potential in it

Our depth let us down tonight more than our regular starters , would rather address that than have major issues with our regular team

Yes if we can move the ball like we did tonight and make as many line breaks as we did against the Storm then we will put points on many sides.

I think Finucane going so early was critical and as Gards said really put us behind the 8 ball. Would have loved to have seen how we’d gone with him playing his proper minutes. Would have been much closer I reckon, in fact we might even had won.

We were outclassed unfortunately.

Paps is an elusive little f**k. Also an A grade diver, but they would have beat us anyway.

Even though the outcome was disappointing I loved the chance to watch the Sharkies live.

Some of those backline movements were slick as f*ck.

The reality check we needed.

Good indication of what needs to improve and how to better themselves for the big games.

This team is building, just need patience.

We need more pace across the field. Live you could see the difference between the two teams.

If we could work out how to snuffle out those quick bastards with extraordinary defence then we'd have a chance of outpointing them with our passing finesse. Would need the bounce of the ball too though.

Some good lessons to be learned. That's finals footy against a side who knows it better than most. We put up a decent fight but ultimately we gotta be better.

Good lesson to get in R6.

When Munster badly beat Nico for his first try, our prop (Toby) chased like a man possessed & damn near pulled Munster up short of the line. I liked seeing that desperation From Toby.

On same play, Nico get beaten again badly. No doubt The Fitz & Price are putting a lot of defensive coaching work into Nico - thankfully by finals Nico’s reads / technique will have improved.

Can confidently say the sharks v storm rivalry is back alive and well, the **** between our bay and the storm Mong’s was priceless… one storm Nuffie in a Tommy Hilfiger jumper sat there staring all night at us (found it weirdly comforting)

Actually not too upset with that loss. Some big positives come from a game like that and a few lessons learned.

As others said, losing Finucane early was very costly and without that happening I think we see a different game.

Talakai and Ronnie have now built a combination and it's hard to see him losing that starting centre spot. Granted Coates could not read when to jam at all last night but scoring 3 tries against storm on an edge is a massive acheivement.

McInnes is not an edge, flat out mismatch against Munster. Sure he will take this as motivation when he starts 13 next week.

Trindall is a wasted bench spot can't control his nerves and ends up overplaying which usually causes an error. If we run a utility we use Tracey/Metcalf both are better and can cover a wider range of positions.

Hiroti is hiroti we all know what to expect from fourth string back.
