That’s more to my point, do you think it would be a message from the coach to “take someone out” with HIA assessment.

I know if it’s level scores with 20 to go having their creative half or kicker off the field would help.

I think players know their roles haha not gonna say there'd be an instruction like to the trainer to "tell x to kill y" during play.

By the time you make the GF everyone knows what's up, wouldn't be there otherwise. Things go without saying.

I’d like to think players are smart enough, but we lost with 15 seconds to go. A penalty at that stage sets our defence and gives them one shot at a try.

I’m also thinking a call like that wouldn’t be made, be like the karate kid fellas telling the kid to sweep the leg! Spoilers

I think if scores are level with 20 to go, the contact number to the independent doc will have been hidden deep in the refs pocked with his whistle.

If your coaching Parra on GF night, do you give Nathan Brown a message to take Cleary out with a high shot. At least he misses 15 mins for Hia.

Do you think these days are gone or these messages are still given.
With everything in a tackle being examined with a fine tooth comb, the days of putting a hit on someone so to speak are pretty much done. People can make up their own minds if they think its a good thing or not.
In 2022 I’d rather just try to shut down Cleary legally rather then lose one of my guys to the sin bin. Or worse.

If you're Parra would you rather play them 13 on 13 or lose a player to send off and play them 12 on 13 but they don't have their starting halfback in Clearly for the entire game if he is ruled out with a bad enough injury from said hitman

If you took him out early I think playing 12 on 13 even with Panthers having an inferior half slot into the 7 (in place of Chin) will eventually catch up with you fatigue wise and gaps are going to open up in your defensive line.

But if say there is 20 mins to go and the scores are close and Clearly is pinning you in your end with his kicking game it might be worth the roll of the dice to murder him

Whoever takes over from Chin in the 7 is going to be a massive downgrade and Panthers suddenly become a less effective unit

Penrith are the best defensive team 13 v 13, don't like your chances 12 v 13.

I'd be aiming to push the 10 meters all game and make sure he gets put on his back everytime he kicks the ball.

Slater (I think) made a good point to get at him especially from marker even if you're offside. The ref might call 6 again occasionally but if the pressure is good & constant Chin will have kicked it before getting that advantage.

That's pretty clever actually - good thing Slater retired before the 6 again era. He would have got away with murder. Would have loved seeing the prime Melbourne Storm team come up against this Panthers side though

Maybe the last of the little fullbacks

don't think so - Gutho & Edwards weigh about 6 kgs more than Slater did and while that isn't insignificant (close to 10% difference) and both players are bigger than you might think they are hardly Inglis or Latrell size

Will Kennedy same weight as Slater and goes pretty good - his deficiencies in defense aren't down to his size

Dykes & Miller have also looked good at FB and aren't big guys

smaller players can always make it in league if they have enough talent, grit and determination

It's a bit hard to make direct comparisons obviously, but...
A quick search puts it at 9kg difference between Slater and Gutho. Slater also 5'10 and Gutho 6'3...
Latrell is down as 102kg (arguably too heavy) and 6'4.

Gutho is closer to Latrell size than Slater
