@Chad
We run a WhatsApp group chat for parents to communicate through if their kid can’t make training or a game which seems to help.
I assume you probably run the same or similar.
Some parents just won’t do it though.

In my team about 1/4 of the parents won’t use the group. Some a great communicators but prefer to contact me directly.

This was the same at my old team. Different club, different parents, similar situation. 75% use the group/app, about 15% prefer not to use the group comms but are still good, and about 10% just don’t communicate at all.

I had to call out two parents this year. Basically told them that if they can't be bothered bring their kid to training and communicating with the coach, all bets are off as to whether or not they ever go on the field. This was extreme though. These kids were at 5-6 training sessions each over a period of 3 months.
I certainly use WhatsApp and like what Burgo said, some use it beautifully but to others it's a mystery.

In Burgo's post above where I've highlighted, I find that those who won't use the group also don't communicate with me directly. I always have to chase them. I also get incensed when I have sent a message out with information and someone comes on and asks a question on something I have already communicated. Like, for example, I'll send out the details of where we are playing and what time, and some idiot later that day will come on and ask "So, where are we playing on Saturday? And what time?" My blood absolutely boils at that.

Not on the same level as Burger's grievances with junior league but my 7 year old's soccer training was called off by the coach tonight because it started raining 15 minutes before it was due to start

I'm ****ing livid with this. Kids love getting wet and muddy so it's obviously about the parents.

People are ****ing softcocks these days.

Rant over.
Our club does this constantly. We've had about 4 training sessions all season. If someone's Frappuccino tips over the lip and onto the turf they tape off the park for half the week.

I have a parent that's just a straight up passive aggressive **** stirrer. We've turned up 15 mins before game time to warm up for two years, and now she's seen her older kids team gets there 30 mins beforehand she drops 'so are we still getting there 30 mins before to warm up?' in the chat... this is the same parent who compained to the club about our warm ups but is yet to even mention it to me or offer any help.

Some people are just nutters.

Would love to see the NRLs response

The MRC has been a joke all season.
Very inconsistent with charges, penalties and especially non-charges and seem to make **** up to justify the unjustifiable (or howlers of a decision).
It really needs an overhaul with common sense to be at the forefront of ALL of their decisions.

Geezus even blind Freddie could have made better calls on some of the recent BS from them.

Thanks mate.

How do these people survive through life?

The mind boggles really.
My wife manages the FB page for the school she works at. She can put up a post that says something like "don't forget that today is the swimming carnival. Parents who would like to come watch can arrive any time from 10am" and the very first comment will be "hi - can you please tell me what time the swimming carnival starts?"

Idiots.

I actually find the more intelligent the person is, the more they miss these little things. What I mean is I have had some parents who have high paying jobs with degrees coming out of their backsides - these are the ones that miss things. While they have a great deal of intelligence, they have absolutely no common sense.

Definitely there case for some but also plenty of people with no intelligence and no common sense!

Would have replied eariler mate but missed this post...

Totally agree. Looking at the big picture you don't see the brushstrokes. And it take different strokes to rule the world.

What you talkin' about Sparkles?

There's also an element of "you can't tell me what to do". I once had a parent - who up until this point was great at communicating directly - send me a long, nasty text message complaining that I couldn't force her to use my preferred method of communication.

A lot of people just don't get that when you miss training or games unannounced it is bad for all of the other players. Some parents have the attitude "if my kid misses training, that's fine. It's only him missing out". It's a team sport ffs. When that kid keeps getting in everyone else's way on gameday, the entire team suffers. When you plan a night of learning how to come out of corners, and your fullback and left winger don't show up... the coach ends up standing around looking like an under-prepared idiot, because he's got to think up something else to do on the fly that suits the kids who have actually shown up. Again, the rest of the team suffers. Some parents just don't see this at all.

I wonder if it’s because they didn’t play team sports themselves and haven’t had the experience?

No idea. It's possible I guess. I think for some people they don't see organised team sport any differently than they see summer or social comps: turn up when you feel like it, don't when you don't, and nobody minds either way.
