Wonder if anyone would dare come back a bit overweight ?

Considering how hard the first part of pre season has been you'd be nuts to come back in bad shape.

I noticed on socials alot of players starting training before pre season so you wont do yourself any favours if you have one too many pavlovas :)

Has been a pretty quick off season so far. Guess that happens when you've got a pesky pandemic distracting us.

The Nrl should be making clubs sign 5 additional players to 1 year minimum amount deals to boost squads to 35 now to be ready for a long season of ins and outs due to covid.
Extra $450k grants for the NRL is a drop in the ocean compared to what’s a risk with canceled games.
No point waiting till mid season and then telling clubs they can use xyz or beg, borrow or steal players.
Give them 4 weeks to fill 5 additional spots paid by the NRL, clubs can’t hold the spot and wait to fill xyz spot is injured etc etc it’s fill them now or lose them.
Will keep more players involved in the game, better depth means better football.

I am guessing one captain might come into training after a few Christmas puddings! (Having been down the beach a couple of days ago!)

Pretty sure this is how all of the teams ran things in the bubble anyway. E.g. For the Sharks 2020 Pele, JT, Williams and others (they had 10+ extras if you included dev list players) were in the bubble. 2021 for the bubble rounds Iro and some others did the same. I believe that they are paid ~$1000/week. Chances are the NRL was already chipping in.

What are our expectations for next year? Realistically.

Do we hit the panic button if we don’t make the 8?

Stay healthy and gel early.
I’m thinking 4-6th isn’t unrealistic, I’ll probably get shouted down put not to sure the teams that finished above us last season have got stronger.

Yeah missing the 8 would be a failure.

Can’t see it happening when you not only factor in our recruitment and defensive improvements (I’m assuming) but also factor in teams around us.

Yep 5th is my uneducated guess. We'll be playing the wooden spooner in the last game of the year for a chance at the top 4 and lose the game in the dying seconds.

I see reasons for 6 of last years top eight to slip a notch rather than get stronger thereby creating space for our move towards the top .

For us I see above 6th as a good year but anything below 6th disappointing given the new recruits , the time others in roster have had to develop, & not to forget the Fitz factor in which the management/board have invested a lot of their credibility with members & fans.

No I agree with you. I’d say 5th to 8th is probably the most realistic scenario we can probably hope for, top 8 is the very bare minimum that should be acceptable, missing the 8 would be an absolute failure, although making predictions this time of year is a bit pointless.

I think we will make top 6, but more importantly, I expect a big attitude change in the way we approach the games.

Last year the top 6 was clear cut from early on (bar manly who had a shocker start).

I think success looks like bridging the gap to this top group. We need to be a cut above the also rans that were us, Canberra, titans and Knights last year. I think souths will slide a bit, so 6th is a great result, anything higher is awesome. Happy with 7th or 8th if that gap is reduced and we are a threat from that position.

Yeah they probably will but still have a fair bit of strike, they'll still beat up on the lesser teams.

Completely agree. They will still be competitive, just think they may fall from the top 4 and get replaced by the chooks.
