What's not to like about cheering on Sharks in Canberra , apart from the Raiders fans and the Clap ?

Just saw this on Zerotackle. Nothing major as far as news goes, however, and has perhaps already been read by those here.

Is just about Meninga and Origin. Really not sure why the NRL do this. Make it black and white, if you're Australian coach or in a role that is in conflict of allowing you to be apart of some other entity, then it is a no.

The conditions of this is that he is not meant to have direct contact with Slater. Please. Of course he will still have contact. SMS, phone call, write things down and have someone pass it along. NRL are good at creating grey area.

Meninga's job with the ARL meant him joining Queensland Origin camp would lead to a clear conflict of interests, something the ARL weren't having as they knocked back the QRL's original approach.

According to The Australian though, Meninga has now been cleared to work on a senior advisory board, provided he doesn't have direct contact with new Queensland coach Billy Slater.

Get Flanno to foward the emails to create some extra subterfuge.

Imagine waiting all off season for round 1 and your team has the bye

Would suck. Kind of useless getting it in the first 6-7 rounds I would have thought.
Yeah you'd want to be at least middle third of season I reckon, halfway or later even better.
Depends on origin fixtures too I guess, if there will be split rounds that cause more byes or not.

Maybe that is the punishment for the spoon? Round 1 bye?

I wish there were more consequences for finishing last then just a wooden kitchen utensil.

Letting down your fans who are pumped for the new season by being told your not required for round 1 would be a good start. ;) ;) :D :D

Guaranteed mid-ladder finish after Rnd 1, some teams would kill for that

Not a bad idea at first glance. Wonder if it might be a bit unfair though. Would imagine the first round would be one of the higher viewed games of the normal season. Could have a bit of an impact on their wallet, making a **** team even shitter

Off the top of my head I can't think of a more 'fair' option though.
NRL wouldn't want any top teams or big market teams to cop the first round bye, taking turns won't work as there will be 18+ teams before everyone has had a turn anyway so that's not fair.
Draw isn't random or even so NRL has full control over who gets bye unless they put it in the hands of the teams themselves by saying spooner gets an extra week of preseason.
