Crazymatt said the storm would slide next year, take it as gospel.
They did finish worse than last year... let's be generous and give him that ;)
if CM has the cahoona's to stick to that line, I feel like he'll be right in 2022. Though a big slide for Melbourne would be finishing 3rd!

Especially now the nrl is saying they won't disadvantage fans by suspending a few people doing the wrong thing or some bullshit

Hopefully the 6 again rule is tweaked over the off season (which I believe will be the case).
A few suggestions:
The team with the ball gets a penalty if it’s early in the tackle count and they are still in their own 20-30. After that, play the current 6 again rule.
Introduce a 5 min sin bin for offside from a scrum?
There is no reason to be offside at a scrum as the defending team has ample time to set up.
Repeat 6 again (due to offside or ruck infringements) within own defensive line (say 20m line) to lead to sin bin (this is already in place, but maybe police it better and use it to discourage teams).

Need to remove 6 agains for offside. Storm and Panthers made a mockery of that rule.

As you said, they need to do something about the holding down early in sets. Everyone knew before the restart in 2020 that it would happen, it was blatant in that season, and the NRL did nothing. 2021 season was a debacle. Not sure if your suggestion is the right answer, but they have to address this. It’s a joke.

If we could also have players play the ball where they are tackled, not have gridiron style blockers at the ruck, and figure out a way to incentivise players to tackle with their shoulders instead of cuddling - that would be a bonus.

Yeah, the holding down is as blatant as it gets and gives lazy kick chasers a get out of jail free card. The dominant tackle is meant to be the reward for strong tackles, and the milking call good for players trying to offset a good solid put-down by calling for interference. I like them both in theory.... not as sure the refs are good enough to adjudicate them well though.

One I saw used once but not enough was a player continued holding down after ref has called 6 again and got binned.
If the 6 again call doesn't tell you the time to get off has passed then a spell in the change rooms might make you think on it a bit further.

Agree early tackle count ones are too inconsequential and referee should have (and use) option to blow penalty on those all 6 agains if they choose.

Sure would have helped Souths on the weekend.

My biggest annoyance over several years is watching players being allowed to walk off the mark when they play the ball, almost always pushing the marker out of play. That was a punch-on catalyst in my day.

Steams me too. They could quite easily get up and play the ball where they are, but always seem keen to try and play it where the tackler is or as B & B says, move a few metres forward off the mark. It has to be something that is coached and aims to get a penalty. Unfortunately refs fall for it all the time.

When they are waiting for ref to tell them to play it and they keep stutter stepping forward pushing marker back like they were going to play it but weren’t sure if Ted wanted them to and oh no I’ve made 5 meters

Panthers to keep premiership-winning team together after banning bonus payments

Penrith management has now “tidied up” their once troubled salary cap and the bold move also ensures the 2021 premiers remain salary cap compliant.

“We now go forward with no surprising bonuses in player contracts which can affect the post-year salary cap,” Panthers Group CEO Brian Fletcher said. “Our contracts are now neat and tidy. If you’re on $200,000 then you get paid $200,000.

“There are now no surprises with our cap after winning a grand final. There’s no problems with any of that now.

“That’s where you get into trouble and we have been in trouble before but the retention committee has that well under control. Our contracts offer very limited upside for playing Test, Origin or winning grand finals.

“Clubs don’t want to get to the stage where they have to get rid of a player because another player was owed a $100,000 bonus. We have tidied up all that.

“If you’re part of a grand final side then your value automatically increases – that, in our minds, is equivalent to a bonus.”

Second half in Panthers v Storm there was a play where To’o got tackled 2-3m out from his line and played in on the 10. I almost threw my beer at the tv.

I’m guessing most things were a punch-on catalyst in your day ;)

Loved the Panthers' CEO saying Ivan deserves to be mentioned as one of the elite coaches.

Um no, he's not on the same level as Bellamy, Bennett of Robinson.

Also, he was very fortunate to inherit that team, most of which have been playing together for a long time. That's a massive advantage.
