If Tonga could put together a half decent spine they'd go close to winning it. The rest of their side is so good.

Top bloke. whatever the actual truth is he previously has issues.

Did find it funny that in this day and age there is a charge of choking a person without consent.

Reckon a few posters here could have got done for choking the chicken :)

The Roar

The NRL finals format is always questioned at this time of year but with the competition moving to 17 teams next year, is it time to tweak the system?

For the first time since 1994, there will be more teams missing the playoffs than qualifying.
NRL has the best finals system possible and there is still ********s whinging about it

It's not the best finals system possible.

Of the ones that have already been used by the NRL and AFL, it is the best.

There are things that other finals systems have that the current NRL top 8 doesn't.

For example, this year the Panthers or Cowboys can be eliminated from finals by losing only one game. Most finals systems don't work like that. They have a bigger reward for finishing high AND winning week 1.

That's an awful way of putting it.

This finals system allows the Panthers and Cowboys to only need 2 wins to a grand final. Most finals systems drag on. Go on though, feel free to name a better system I am willing to change my mind.

Penalty ever day of the week with all the refs except maybe Kline . Ramien regularly gets penalised doing it .
Yes, although my issue with that is that same amount of drag backwards after held call likely either okay or if ref feeling generous to attack he’ll let them back onto mark.
Now, obviously it’s not the rules but is that situation really so much worse than the multiple late offloads the ref let them have back

(Just moved this out of the 3-2-1 thread)

Story in the telegraph today and on channel 7 tonight about Mario Fenech battling early on-set dementia over the last few years.

Devastating news, one of the kindest blokes I've ever had the pleasure of meeting, always hated how he was treated by channel 9 and if it's true they knew about the diagnosis then it's even more disgusting.

I recall Mario being concussed every second week - unfortunately it was perceived as a weakness to come off - and he never did ..

Yep and unfortunately he's about to become the poster boy for why concussion protocol is so important.

I always liked Mario both as a player and personality post his playing career.

Agree re the 9 guys, very average how they treated him.

Yeah I watched that too. Real eye opener. Felt terrible for Mario.
