Ricky already holds the record for NRL fines having chalked up $135,000 worth of tickets from head office for press conference outbursts over the course of his 20-year coaching career.

Canberra coach Ricky Stuart is facing the possibility of becoming the first coach in premiership history to be suspended over a post-match press conference tirade.

Sims 4 matches.

Thai tackle was comparable to the one that put my son in hospital last week. Worth 4 games in NRL. Penalty sufficient in u13's apparently.

Not being a smart arse mate but what do you think in hindsight Sims should have done different (considering Tracey was falling).

Maybe tackle with more a catching motion (Ie more of an arm reaching across to wrap the player up) instead of putting on a hit with the upper arm?

I'm really struggling to see where the line is between accidental and failing in duty of care.

Hope you son is OK mate.

I think he should be expected to put himself in a "tackling" position. Bend your back and knees etc.

I think either of the following would make Sims less responsible.
1) If Sims is attempting that tackle with his back bent, both knees bent, and trying to contact Tracey on or under the ball, or
2) If he is moreso attempting a "wrapping" motion, like you said above.

If you go in to a tackle with a straight back and your shoulder pointed directly at a bloke's chest and you miss by 8 inches for whatever reason, that's on you. People fall over in Rugby League all the time. Your tackle technique should account for that.

This is not how a tackling player should approach the ball carrier. If Sims bends his back here and still hits Tracey it's a grade 1 careless imo.

My son is ok now btw. Probably won't play again this season but back at training tonight and able to start doing light jogging.

Falling is largely irrelevant.

Look at Ramien's charges, onus is on defender not to make forceful head contact. Will be judged even harsher if it is shoulder than a hand flinging out.

What should he have done differently? Had the control going into the tackle to not knock a bloke into (but perhaps also out of) next week.

Per burgess' example look how far out Sims has his shoulder level with Tracey's head - what is the likelihood of a good outcome from that position, especially with a man beating him to first contact.

Thanks guys. This cleared it up in my head.

In terms of Ramien (from Borts post)- to me I could understand those charges as it was a shoulder direct to the head. I originally thought Sims wasn't as bad but seeing how you guys explained it makes more sense.

Glad your son is on the mend Burgo.

I heard that this player (as a 12 yo) used to bully Stuart's 10 yo son.
