Argentina having to resort to time wasting tactics against little old us. The Argies are shitting bricks right now.

KUOL OH MY GOD THAT WAS THE MOMENT. SO ****ING CLOSE.

And thats the game, what a fantastic tournament. Through a group containing two world top 10 teams and come inches away from pushing Argentina to extra time.

They’ve done us proud.

Ryan's blunder was unforgivable, can't be giving a goal away at this stage of the tournament.

Garang Kuol is the youngest player to appear in a world cup knockout since Pele, he hasn’t started a professional game of football, only has sub appearances for the Central Coast and he was inches away from scoring the equaliser with the last kick of the game. What a story that would of been if it went in.

Our boys played above themselves again. It was just a difference in class with the little touches that really made the difference I thought. To think it could have been 1-1 at full-time...

Watching our goalie dribbling through defenders was worse than the first time I watched Luke flying the trench to destroy the death star. Unfortunately Argentina slotted it in and destroyed our deft stars.

Still a hugely successful campaign that I hope they take a lot away from

Yeah really we gave them a goal and one of the best players of all time scored another. We did extremely well I thought.

Its happened to much better players in the past and will happen again in the future. But that will haunt him for years.

He’s had a good tournament otherwise.
Yeah I know but a team like us just can't afford it. Mistakes happen for sure, shame it happened at this stage though.

Can’t pick up the ball from a back pass from a teammate.

Yes that's the rule but the punishment for doing so is an indirect free kick (from edge of goal box if I remember correctly) to Argentina which in hindsight we would have had a much better chance of defending than an open goal but it all happened to poor Matty Ryan very quick and it would have been instinct to not pick up the ball and instead try and clear or pass it out.

Argentina were pushing up quick on our defense and the back pass put Ryan under too much pressure, would have been better to try play it out around the wing or heck just boot it out. Ryan threw the ball to the wing not for it to come back to him otherwise Ryan could have just booted the ball up field himself.

The goal keeper can pick it up from a back pass that wasn't kicked - i.e. team mate uses his head or chest to pass it back (not the case obviously in this instance). If the goal keeper has made a genuine attempt to clear the ball with his feet he is also then allowed to pick it up but by then I think the ball was too far out of Ryan's grasp to dive on it. He had a bit of contact from the Argentina player as well which didn't help

Australia has produced excellent goal keepers that play in the big leagues for a while but they all have made some blunders at times including at world cups. We went and scored that kinda lucky deflected goal anyway bringing the deficit back to a single goal and history has shown us to be pretty good at pressure penalty shoot outs if it got that far after extra time but Argentina came up with some big defensive plays in the dying moments.

Immensely proud of this team and what they have achieved and have been entertained by alot of good moments from them in attack and defense.
Scored a goal in every game, couple wins and clean sheets - I bet there will be a number of teams that won't be able to claim that.

It would be nice to see Messi win a WC before retirement but they will need to step up to down the Dutch team.

I can't help but get on board the Asian hype train of Japan and South Kore. They are fun teams to watch and have been underestimated too long.
