I saw it on replay, I was trying to figure the same as a matter of fact, still am actually. The referee & VAR have already been criticised badly for that.

no they havent, they made the right call

on this image, the goal keeper is now a defender, and the last defender is now the goal keeper, there needs to be a player between them, and there isnt when it comes off the Ecuadoran player, there isnt

his leg is offside, and the correct call was made

loads of people are carrying on, but there needs to be 2 players between the goal scorer, a keeper and a defender, when the keeper goes out, a defender can drop back to replace him so you still need 2 people
harsh technicality, and without var its given

I don't follow soccer very closely but I certainly didn't realise the keeper coming forward affects offside as you have described.
