Limited Cap Space, same injuries to ageing players, gonna be a Same Same on field performance yr. Problem is, other Clubs on the rise probably puts us around 10th spot(Depending on the draw)

I don't necessarily think we'll see Same Same on field performance.

Players like Ronnie, Rudolf, Katoa, Uele, Talakai and especially Brailey will all be better for another off season and the experience of this year.

Johnson out for n number of weeks is going to hurt though.

And Graham cant be any worse surely.. right ?

Yeah SJ out is going to be a massive loss for us.

Also can't see us getting a draw as good as 2020.

If we can't make a big improvement on the defence we will slide, despite some of the young guys hopefully going up another level. Need to stay in touch until we get SJ back.

Hopefully no random rule changes so we don't have things like Fifita stacking on weight before 6 again rule was introduced...

Hypothetical , would you trade one of our wingers for JAC if cap allowed ?

Haven't seen it posted elsewhere so I figured I'd drop it in here

We've hired Nathan Pickworth (Ex Dragons head of High Performance) and Tony Grimaldi (Ex Bulldogs Strength and Conditioning coach) for the 2021 Season

No, but that decision is based completely on what we need moving forward, I would love to have JAC at the club, but both our current wingers are pretty damn good and quite young and JAC doesn't fit what we need now

For the same money yes
But that wouldn't happen and we need to be spending elsewhere more importantly

If the rumour of $550k is correct, he's worth every cent.

I'd be doing it.

So that's gotta be like 300/350k up on either of our wingers probably leaves us nothing noteworthy to spend anywhere else. How much higher would we have finished this year with same side except JAC instead of Ronnie?

Or are we trading out Ronnie/Sione and then running JAC at FB?

Ronnie yes, I like him but JAC is an upgrade on almost every facet of play over Ronnie. Speed, discipline, experience and defense particular. As good a finisher and in the air, better around the ruck

Katoa I just could not bring myself to let go and he is our best winger and has a unique style and incredible finisher so no he is mine for keeps

nothing high performance about the Dragons last year

hopefully Grimaldi helps us out a bit with our defense as well as fitness - there is some overlap there anyway

I suppose this goes here:

From Riccio on Twitter.

Former head of HP @NRL_Dragons Nathan Pickworth has joined @Cronulla_Sharks. Former @NRL_Bulldogs S+C coach Tony Grimaldi has also joined the Sharks for 2021 season.
@telegraph_sport

Not sure if Pickworth replaces Matthew Jay or joins him.

Remember we got Grey from the Dragons so making assumptions that he's be rubbish because the Dragons didn't do great probably isn't a good idea. Hook is just starting fresh at the Dragons.

Same with Grimaldi, besides he's just a trainer role.

Glad we're getting in extra resources.

EDIT: Just realised i'm too late haha

Just for clarity, does anyone know what exactly a High Performance Coach does? My understanding is that it's targeted skills coaching but I'm just guessing

It's what Andrew Grey did for us, What Mat Jay does now for us.

They essentially over see the performance department - Sports Science, Sports Medicine, Rehab, S&C. They often have their own strengths. Typically degrees in Sports Science, Physios, S&C coaches.

Looking at Pickworths CV he's got an Applied Science degree and Masters in Physiotherapy.

Mathew Jay (our current head of Ath performance) has a Masters of Exercise Science, Masters of High Perf Sport and Bachelor of Education.

My gut feel is that Pickworth is coming into help and not take over. Matt has far more experience. Then again he might be leaving so guess we'll find out soon enough.

I feel like, considering our history with injuries the past few season, having another guy with a Masters in physiotherapy is probably a good thing

Sorry, was talking for 2022, not 2021. Discussing it for 2021 makes more sense I suppose given that's when he's available.

I would still do it though. I know we scored a stack of points this year but a lot of that came of SJ, I think we need more strike power, an out and out game breaker.

How much higher would we have finished? That's hard to answer. A player of his calibre could possibly have been the difference against Souths, Melbourne and Parra though.

Yeah it certainly can't hurt, might be what he's there to look after.

Support staff chop and change between clubs all the time, look for that next opportunity, or considering the niche industry just a job. This guy might be coming over in a lower role if there's no other Head of role, and moving to a neighbouring club is a pretty sweet gig.
