Melbourne captain Cameron Smith has agreed to new terms with the Storm for 2019,
which will take him into his 18th NRL season and within reach of an incredible 400 games

Credit where its due. He has played in the middle his entire career and made a lot of tackles. For his body to hold up to near 400 games plus all those rep games is pretty amazing

Nah. I don't buy it personally. His body hasn't taken as much of a knock as say Gal and players alike. Yet Smith is the only one to get all the accolades. He runs up, distributes the ball and rinses and repeats for the entire game. He doesn't even hook for the ball in a scrum, no modern hookers do. He isn't a hooker, just a dummy half. He quickly offloads the ball so he doesn't take any knocks either. Is **** if you ask me.

yep gando just jinxed us hard - if we lose against storm need to delete this thread and start a new one in Feb

even modern hookers still gotta make plenty of tackles though and he did run the ball earlier career, but he is much more of a distributor/second half back now

May not make hitups but he makes more tackles than just about anyone in the comp considering how often he is targetted. His output is higher than most middles.

So why aren’t all the modern day hookers playing 400 games, seeing as it’s so easy?

Playing 34 finals matches has certainly helped his games tally. Some very good players go years between finals. ET only played finals in 2 of his first 11 seasons.

There are also more games in a season now than there was 20 years ago.
