The coke is a nothing. WADA don't even care unless its on game day.
It’s not nothing, he still tested positive (pending second test) to an illicit substance while driving.

It is a lot less than a gameday positive by WADA though

In terms of getting sacked I don't think the DUI while suspended will be sweet but that cocaine is too much. He'll only be sacked if we wanna sack him and I don't feel we'd want to. He's not getting deregistered by NRL so it's our decision.

My call is he doesn't get sacked & misses max 4wks

Oh yeah I don’t think he gets sacked, although a lot do.

Court case is mid May so they’d pretty much have to have his (if true) guilty verdict and basically call it time served, which is why I think it goes closer to 8

Why can't he play until court? What if the court date was August? These aren't charges where your guilt or innocence is determined in court, just arguing over the punishment.

To the club it might be something is what i'm saying, they may not want a player/players who choose to use illicit drugs or banned substances be a part of what they've been building with the organisation and with the team, culture and image. They may also decide to set a precedent and have zero tolerance for drugs, considering the clubs history.
Anyway talking about hypothetical worst case scenario with Trindall being moved on sometime this year

Maybe. Seems like it'd be a bit over top reaction unless he has form getting in trouble with the club we don't know about.

Or sending a message to the playing group at all levels, corporate sponsors etc. ?
I mean it's possible and definitely something you do if you want the guy off your books and/or need to put up a show of strength. I think we've been trouble free a long time & we're doing good business so it doesn't look like this is part of a problem within that might spook sponsors or get never ending bad press. We're in a position to be the strong club that nurtures a young Indigenous lad through a tough time in his life and career - unless we don't want to for some reason unknown to me.

Fair point. It might be the endgame, while strengthening the club's image/brand. Also we don't know how much pressure (if any) the NRL's putting on the club.
Suspension + shot at redemption sounds fine to me anyway.

Hope that's the worst. I don't think he deserves that.

I feel the NRL are in a similar period of not much bad press/player behaviour and doing good business so I don't think they'll be looking to make an example of a relatively unknown young bloke. Any pressure from them to sack should be met with a "not unless you deregister him".

He is a professional athlete representing the sharks brand which has gone a long way in improving their previously terrible image.

Personally I am hoping they dont give him just a slap on the wrist especially if it is the second time.

The coke is bad enough but to add to it drink driving……..really really stupid.

Hoping he sorts his sh.t.

People here have git a very short memory.

Has Paul Gallen ever got away with anything re performance enhancing drugs?

He's a fkn hero to most on here.

If you ask Brian Smith he's got a problem.

Agree on Gal. What about the uproar on poor Gal trying to save Anthony Laffranchi a trip to the Doctor.

The same game he squeezed the wheels of Josh Graham. Wild time hey!

Or how about when he called Mickey Paea a "black c$nt". That's not nice?

He’s an idiot for doing it. The coke is one thing, which I’m sure plenty of players take let’s be real… but to get so drunk and then drive on a suspended license…

How much does he earn, just get a Uber FFS and no one is talking about this.

Club should hit him with a warning, any more dumb **** like this and he’s out

I guess I just assumed the stand down would last until then, and the outcome would determine final punishment. I suppose he could come back before although would be a bit odd to like miss a couple weeks, come back for one, have court and miss a few more.

I think its a personal legal issue and its no one's business. Let the courts punish him. But that's not the reality for NRL players.
No it’s not and they all know that coming into the gig. If he doesn’t want a job that punishes you for driving under the influence he has other options.

The game dishes out its punishment and the law dishes out its punishment. I don't think the games punishment should be determined by how hard the courts go. I mean he's not going to jail or getting home detention or put on a watch list as a danger to the community, he's gonna get fines & further disqualification of his license. The games punishment will come down to how bad a look have you been for the company & how much money & wks does that cost you. The media not seeming to care plays massively in his favour.

Oh absolutely. There's no excuses.
