The Sydney Morning Herald reports the Sharks will confirm the veteran has been told by medical professionals to hang up the boots immediately due to repeated concussions.”

Sad end for him but if that’s the case it’s the right thing to do. Got a lot of life left to live with his family. Enjoy retirement
Frees up a bit of cap space as well to re-sign Williams and Iro

Hopefully club retain him in an off field strength and conditioning role as we want blokes like him around the club mentoring the next generation(s)

Health and family come first , never great to have your retirement dictated by injury but it's only a game .
Go and enjoy a life off the park .
Well earned .

If its being done medically it's the best result for all parties. Can't fault the effort he gave us, just wish he'd been on the field more. Hopefully he'll stick around the club for a while.

Has a long life after footy so glad to see he’s taking the right option and looking out for his health.

Would be a great guy to keep around the club in some form of a coaching role, always had a great mentality as a hard worker.

Wow I was kind of hoping from a roster management perspective he might call it a year early (even at decent value next year) but this is quite a shock.
Not how he would have wanted, or deserves, to go out.

All the best to him, was very excited to sign him and has had a lot of bad luck with us unfortunately. As others have said keen for him to stick around if he wants.

Tough way to go out but hardly surprising with the way he plays. I think he stills gets paid through the medical retirement?
Would love to see him stick around, I feel like his influence on the team is just bearing fruit

An unfitting end for a true professional, but a fantastic career for him to be proud of. On field might not have had the impact he could of for us, but I feel his signing did help implement this new culture we have here. I think its essential we keep him around in an off field capacity.

I'm sure we will keep him around in some capacity.

I'm sure they will find a suitable way to celebrate his career at our next home game

Great career and I’m sure he didn’t want to go out this way but probably the best result with everything considered.

He gets paid out and allows us to use his cap space this year which no doubt will help keep Williams.

And avoids any awkward conversations around his place in the team.

Hopefully sticks around for off field opportunities at the club for a while

I only remember him playing the one SOO game for the Blues, article says 5

No point busting himself up more for a stacked Sharks team that doesn't seem to need him as much as they did a season ago and he doesn't deserve to languish around in NSW cup (not that he would have).

Will be great in a training & culture type role. I do feel for the bloke though, 32 yrs old ain't over the hill for NRL but more important things in life so I wish him well.

Look forward to still seeing his face around the sheds, on the sideline and the club in general

lol Burgo I didn't say I didn't believe the article I just associate the Blues at this point with picking a player for 1 game before throwing them under the bus and putting a line through them for ever and I only remember the one game Dale played for the Blues where he made tackles but didn't bring alot more but wasn't given alot of game time IIRC. Would have been one of his bench games.

Any excuse for you to post some stats mate

ffs mate. Did I need to say "I didn't remember either, but here are the five games"?

It's OK for someone to pass on helpful info without you having to have a crack at them.

Very disappointing to hear this but I guess it's for the best, he gave us a lot here on his small stint with us. Is there any official link to his press conference he is hosting soon?
