Yeah fair point. They are still kids and are far more likely to be engaging in social media comments etc about them. The language could be toned down slightly within this thread for that reason, whilst still being able to point out a flaw in their game.

I think this is a great thread and Burgo does a fantastic job of putting together what he does on the pathways, but we need to remember that these are 18/19 year olds fighting their way in the pathways so just be a bit wary of criticising or picking at things like we do to the NRL guys.
Maybe he'd do an even better job of fighting his way through the pathways if he didn't give up on chases.
Age is no excuse here, Sait chased.

It was poor and there is no excusing it.

We mentioned it amongst ourselves and most think the coach will likely raise it too. Not like we are ramming it down his socials, or even saying we want him gone.

If the coach doesn't raise it and Gabrael chooses to come on Sharks Forever to see what people are saying about him then I think he will find everything generally pretty favourable. But I'd like to think he can watch that video and identify that yes it's not a good look and not ideal himself.

No reason to think he can't learn from that poor effort and not do it again. Otherwise appears to have been going well and you are supporting that too.

I won't be holding it against him unless I see it become a regular thing, but we haven't had much exposure to him yet and he's coming into a top 30 contract so he's gunna get a few eyes cast over him.

Whilst you’re crucifying Gabriel from your couches for this I can tell you he’s been their best player in the first 2 weeks. And he takes plenty of runs too.
A guy can have an otherwise great game with one poor moment. That's what I assume this is.

I doubt it happens again.

Kid is definitely an attacking weapon.

No one was being over critical and certainly not “crucifying him”.

Critical on that specific play yes. Definitely and rightly so.
Over critical (crucifying). No way, he clearly gave up the chase where others from further back tried to stop the run around (Thats fact).

I’d suggest that when he watched that over again, he probably thought to himself “I should have chased that” and his team mates and coach would be addressing that.

He wants to be an NRL player and by all the noise about him, he will likely be one and good on him, but these are the things he needs to work on, the 1%ers.

I definitely agree with this sentiment, and I wouldn’t ever call attention to “normal” pathways player making “normal” errors.

We are talking about a guy on a 3 year NRL top 30 deal showing a lack of effort though - so imo it’s definitely worth talking about (especially since there is no NRL to talk about yet).

I value your input in these young players; you get to see more than most of us so likely have a better idea of the big picture. Happy to hear that his overall game is strong.

Look, my comment wasn't aimed purely at the critique of Gabriel. I agree, he is top 30 so not your typical pathways player. But there was a comment a couple weeks back, I think it was you actually, about the big Fijian winger in SG ball getting picked after he had dropped some balls.
I can tell you that kid has hardly played rugby league, is a beast and no doubt viewed as a bit of a project player. I don't think its necessary for comments like that to go on in here, like we do to the NRL players.

Fair enough. Will keep that stuff to myself from now on. Tbf to the kid the handling in that game was pretty ordinary across the board from both sides. First game of the year and in the heat. As expected for a trial 1.

Think he was in the Raiders system last year. Maybe a RU player previously. Could be wrong though.

Brad Fearnley has been in a couple of Jets social
Media posts in the last few days, including a “hi - I’m Brad Fearnley from the Newtown Jets” video.

Was pretty sure I spotted him a while ago but that confirms it 100%.

Nice to know you think he's attractive.

I'm not a fan of how Gabreal gives up on this one.

Has a chance to force a wider conversion and pulls up. Byrce Sait on the other hand has almost no chance of making a difference but doesn't give up.

This is the sort of thing that can make the difference between a player who has potential and a player who goes on to the next level. Gabreal needs to do better here.

Yeah, that's really ordinary

Disappointing game from the SG Ball squad today. Lost 34-18 to Canberra.

We’re down 30-6 at one point. Scored a couple late to make it interesting but Raiders were in control most of the game.

Not too many highlights for the Sharks. McCarthy I thought went well. Latu is a huge human and scored a try but got limited chance with the ball after that. Gabreal wasn’t involved much but he and a Raiders player started a stink. Not sure any punches got thrown. Plenty of grabbing and pushing.

Nikora Williams ins a goer. Commentator said his dad is Jason Williams (former Bulldogs/Rabbitohs winger).

*

Jets win 20-16.

Would assume Nick related to Sam?
Noticed a Stonestreet in our women's junior reps as well.

I also like that coach has a little reminder next to Coutts name.
Is it big minutes? Or the big kid in case he forgets who he is?
Haha I assume it’s an equipment size thing. Socks or shorts or jersey. Coutts is quite tall.

I am pretty sure Nick is Sam’s older brother. He came through the Sharks system and plays for De La Salle.
