Not sure if it’s been mentioned but Volkman is facing $50k shoulder surgery, 6 months rehab. Seriously, the sharks could pay the bill and sign him for two years on minimum and he’d probably take it. That’s a very good, very cheap half for next year considering our long term 6 is still up in the air.
What message does that send Tricky, Dykes and Atkinson.
All of which are considered good prospects.
Is Volkman THAT much better that we give him a spot in the 30 on even min wage over those guys?

Especially if a team like the Dragons (much much more desperate for another half) don’t rate him enough to take that risk themselves after convincing him to forgo on 2 more years he already had with another club

At the end of the day, the reason we were entered into the comp back in '67 was because of our substantial junior nursery - this doesn't mean we can't / don't recruit from outside, but we have to do what we can to foster our juniors, even though they get poached when they don't get the opportunity here...

I would say the same message they already have - there is a long term 6 jersey available for someone
Also not being given to him over any of them.
And finally, Dragons need a 6 right now, urgently.
They can’t afford to carry a prospect currently.

But regardless of what I see as valid points above, I do agree he is probably surplus to requirements for us. Someone surely throws him a dev contract, was gunna say drags might but they have a full 6.

Some potentially big news out of Brisbane:
Adam Reynolds has apparently been carried off the training pitch, unable to put any weight on his right ankle.

Didn’t he strain his ankle / calf like 2 weeks ago from memory ?
I know a few people over the years that have done had minor problems then few weeks later broken their ankle badly.

Edit it was SJ that I was thinking about oops

The message it sends is no one owns the spot yet, which they don't. Does he need to be in the top 30? I'm not across where we have vacancies. I would give him a development contract. I genuinely want Trindall to own the 6 this year, but it's not a done deal yet. And Volkmann has so far performed better in the few nrl games he has played in the position than any of our backups have in the same grade.

My point really is this. Is this an opportunity to create another future option at a bargain basement price? If Volkmann doesn't sign anywhere this year, instead playing in nsw cup later in the year after his rehab, whats his price for 2025? If he kills it in nsw cup at the back of 2024 he could ask 350-400k in 2025 depending on the halves market. And Volkman had huge wraps on him before he signed at the warriors on a three year deal from the chooks.

But I'm not going to double down on the idea. I just wonder if it could be a good bit of business.

Noafaluma has been told to **** off from the tigers. Had 1 mil owing across 2 years left but has accepted 300k.

Benji has started well imo. Couple of big signings for them and is now starting the clean out.

$300k to not play for the Tigers is a good deal. I'd take that.

I dunno, I see a lot of positive changes happening there. Really do think they’ll be back hovering around the 8th-10th spot within 24 months and will then continue to progress from there.

Parramatta could be a potential landing spot for Noafaluma apparently.
