Oh that seems like a hassle...
I don't know how fast ships go. Gotta assume that's at least a few days though even assuming that ship can be crewed 24 hours?

Are they thinking deathtoll is 1000s, 10,000s, 100,000s? Or nowhere is even guessing?
Yeah I got no idea either but it feels like it'd be a few days. @dylan the villian could probably tell us.

I haven't heard any mentions of death toll guesses at all. Dunno if that's good or bad.

ok from my experience with offshore support vessels. 15 knots flat out.... so a maximum 360nm per day in good sea conditions...2000 miles... take a week to steam that far... it wont be a simple fix at all.

no vessel is a one stop bunnings shop. first vessel will need to have ROV capability or saturation divers. not likely. so they will be chartered in, take a look on the ocean floor at the damage at possibly some insane depths. we are probably talking 1000-3000 meters deep in the pacific . then need potentially a specialist cable laying ship (you read that right haha). or at least ROV with the ability to repair a cable at that depth...

So about 2wks in good conditions (which it probably isn't because of the eruption)? Then a complicated repair job. Like 3-4wks to reconnect them then?

id imagine so, they will have to send down a robotic unit (ROV) to take a look at what needs to be repaired. then bring the equipement in that needs to be replaced and the vessel todo it....nothing happens quickly when its 1000 meters down.

its not like nbn rocking up in the van todo a dodge repair on ya street node lol. many variables. wind blows 40 knots for a few days and the ship wont even be able to hold position over the damaged cable.

in regards to saturation diving, i HIGHLY recommend you watch 'last breath' on netflix..... different breed the lot of em...

I don't have nightmares often but when I do it involves the open ocean. Fascinates me & terrifies me. 'Last Breath' sounds like it'll **** me up a bit more - can't wait lol

Weird, it’s summer here high 30s every day
Summer here too, you're not that far away. We've had a couple 30's otherwise its 23-29C with patchy rain & sun but lotsa rain when it comes. Grass growing like a MF'er.
