Val grew up as a fullback didnt he?

Yes he might have left some balls bounce but barba has as well....

I am unsure who i want at fullback, to be honest i think Val would probably do the best job especially given a few games in the position, however his versatility is crucial whilst gagan continues to get injured and using barba on the bench seems like a massive waste.....especially if he can improve on last years form , which i reckon was pretty under rated.

I am thinking the only person i dont want back there is bird.

My thoughts are these:

Barba is a waste on the bench and won't play 6 with Maloney here. Anyone suggesting he's going to play reggies seriously has rocks in their head.
Jack Bird is an out and out right centre. He should be paired with Val on the right, I think they will be an absolutely lethal combination. Feki has been proven at left wing for a few seasons now and picks himself. That leaves Beale, Capewell and Leutele to fight out the left centre spot. Capewell shows promise, but should get experience in NSW Cup first. I think Beale is all class, sound defensively (better than Ricky anyway) and he knows how to set up his winger.

So for me it's:

Barba
Feki
Beale
Bird
Holmes
Maloney
Townsend

I think there's plenty of points in that backline.

I have no doubt that Bird would play well as fullback in the attacking zone, ball playing, chiming into backline movements etc but i very much doubt he'd be better than barba on things like positioning for kicks and actually catching high balls, fielding grubbers etc. Though the creagh tackle aside i don't think barbas goal line defence is great either, doesn't show a whole lot of urgency to put his body between the player and the tryline like a slater or stewart would.

Plus its still Val i want to see become our long term fullback.

This... Just hope after this weeks trial flanno comes out and says baring injury barba is our 1st choice fullback option , jack next to val, so everyone can focus on the required aspects of their position for couple of weeks, ready for season proper,
I really for the life of me don't believe 3 weeks out from the start of the season the brains trust are still debating such important positional players best positions, I get bench players train themselves in and out of the team.
Enough of the ducks n drakes through the media sit em down tell em and then train them.

been saying it for 2 years. But get shot and abused because he's never played with decent halves pairings

I look forward to this year's excuse on why he is still playing ****
Once he gets some space and good early ball you'll see how good he will be.

I always thought Ricky would become a very good centre but he never progressed.

Very strange we extended him for three years, I really don't understand that. Two years would have been more than sufficient.

If he's not a guaranteed starter for the next 3 years I'm not fussed but supercoach doesn't drop underachievers as shown by gordon and robson getting picked every week.
