MAYBE WORTH KEEPING AN EYE ON !

YOUNG BULLDOG TURNING SEAGULL FOR NEXT NRL CHALLENGE
ZERO TACKLE – NOVEMBER 6, 2014
CANTERBURY-BANKSTOWN BULLDOGS, NEWS, PAT TEMPLEMAN, PLAYER MOVEMENTS
Pat Templeman

He was cut loose by Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs but Sunshine Coast product Pat Templeman is more determined than ever to make the NRL big time.

The 21-year-old will play for Wynnum-Manly in the Intrust Super Cup next year after being told his services weren't required at Belmore.

He failed to break through this year after scoring more than 300 points for the club in the Toyota Cup (under-20s) the previous season.

"I guess you could say it went a little pear-shaped but I'm very excited to be back up here in familiar surroundings and I'm looking forward to doing a big pre-season and then hopefully a big year," he said.

"I'm still young and still hungry so I'm definitely still keen on chasing the NRL dream."

Templeman's manager Shaun Pyne told the Daily last week that North Queensland had invited him to pre-season training at Townsville but he opted to join the Seagulls who are linked to the Brisbane Broncos.

Just have to think back to 2012 in-form Barba to show that this post is dribble. Feel free to go and watch some youtube clips of him setting up tries.

In a team that Keating was able to look good in and keep Hodkinson in reserve for awhile. Bulldogs are just so well coached and drilled. Even mitch brown and perrett look like decent fullbacks in that team. I think barba is talented but not a half that can control one side of the field, March his men around and set up trys from passes or kicks. If he gets a few off loads and has broken field is the only time he will look ok with us

I am on record as saying I do not want Barba but that is due to his off field antics not his on field.

He played in the 1 jersey but he was the point of the all the dogs attack in 2012 and it wasn't just his running game either. He scored 22 tries but setup 23. Even last he out of form he setup 5 and scored 6

If you don't think he would add to our attack then you need to rethink, if we get him happy and focused he will be as good for us as Carney was.

The fact of the matter is that you said all he had was a running game; If a bloke has 22 try assists in a season and just as many tries, clearly there's more than just a running game there. You've just moved the goalposts after being called out, saying that "but he was in a good side" or "he's not an controlling half". Same was with Carney, but if his hammies were decent we could have gone very well into those 12/13 finals series.

Barba has missed the start of pre-season due to the birth of his 3rd child. At least according to an AAP report.

22 tries
23 assists
Dally M medal winner
Fullback of the year
Provan-Summons Medal winner

that was in 2012. If there was ever a time where 1 player dominated a season, that was it. He was unstoppable that year. Has anyone from our team ever scored tries while creating 20 more in 1 season? Probably never.

Ennis is and always has been great at controlling his forwards. Ennis' ability to do this is going to completely change the way we see our forwards operate next year IMO. His addition to the Sharks will be invaluable. BUT that will all be for nothing if we have bat-**** boring attack at the business end of the field. We need a live wire. Holmes isnt ready to come into fullback, Brown is probably a season of reserves off too. Robson isnt going to be dropped so forget replacing him. We NEED that number 6 to be a footwork guy, with some passing. Thats barba.

Look at the tries carney was scoring himself for us, both sides of the field, 2nd receiver or 1st receiver after some crab work from the hooker. Barba can do what Carney did, just maybe not some of the big 40-20.

I thought Barba started looking really good at 5/8 for the Broncos toward the end of last season.

His off the cuff kicking game seemed to have a natural feel to it as well, needs some fine tuning but I think he has the talent in his boot.

MANAGER BEING COY ???

Broncos tough NRL love awaits Barba

The birth of his third child ensured Ben Barba was a no-show when Brisbane began their NRL pre-season training.

But another new arrival might soon take precedence for Barba if he wants to thrive in the Broncos' family.

Barba's manager Chris Orr played down the ex-Dally M Medallist's absence from training on Wednesday, saying his out-of-favour client was spending quality time with his growing family.

However, some tough love lies ahead for Cronulla target Barba if he remains at Brisbane under new coach Wayne Bennett.

"Ben is no different to the other players," Broncos CEO Paul White said.

"They will have to work hard and earn their stripes.

"And Wayne is very direct and honest with players.

"Everyone will know exactly where they stand and, if they embrace that, they will have success.

"If they don't, it makes it hard."

If Barba had not realised how far he had fallen out of favour at Brisbane, the Broncos' 2015 jersey launch on Wednesday would have been a sobering sight.

Brisbane proudly placed recruit Anthony Milford on centre stage and spruiked his worth as five-eighth - the position Barba had held for the latter part of the 2014 season.

And a return to fullback for Barba appears out of the question due to Darius Boyd's imminent signing.

White said they hoped to finalise a deal with Boyd sooner rather than later after the troubled fullback secured a release from Newcastle last week.

"We are still in discussions with his manager but we are confident we might be in a position to make an announcement in a week or so but we can't get ahead of ourselves," White said.

Barely 12 months after his triumphant arrival at Brisbane, Barba appeared set for a low-key departure with a year to run on his contract after being granted permission to talk to other clubs by Bennett.

But, Orr played down speculation Barba was on the way out, saying rumours Cronulla had already begun talks were false.

"He is still contracted to the Broncos," Orr told AAP.

"Nothing has changed. At this stage, it is speculation.

"He has not spoken to anyone.

"He is yet to speak to Wayne about where he sits in the pecking order."
