THE Sharks will offer a multitude of SuperCoach buys regardless of the outcome of ASADA's investigation into the 2011 supplement program. If players are spared suspensions, Paul Gallen will be a must-have once again, while an exodus of forwards could create cheapie opportunities.
If as many as 11 players are suspended as a result of the ASADA investigation, Cronulla will be forced to field a team of misfits and rookies, which would lead to an avalanche of cheap SuperCoach options.
In this instance, Andrew Fifita, who is not under suspicion from ASADA given he played for the Tigers in 2011, would become a dominant forward leader and therefore an essential SuperCoach buy (if he wasn't already).

Forward depth:
With Ben Ross, Tyrone Peachey, Jayson Bukuya, Jon Green and Mark Taufua having left the club, forward depth may be tested if there are injuries and when Paul Gallen, Luke Lewis and Andrew Fifita are on Origin duty. The Sharks have recruited former Dragon Matt Prior, but the biggest winner SuperCoach-wise could be Tupou Sopoaga, who made the 2014 NSW Cup Team of the Year in the starting back row. He also played for the Junior Kiwis in 2012. Andrew Fifita's brother David could also benefit after being promoted to the NRL squad for the pre-season.
Eric Grothe Jr:
The former Test and Origin winger returns to the NRL after three years out of the game. SuperCoaches will be hoping he starts at a rookie price given his time away, in which case he'd be a must-have buy (provided he impresses the coaching staff enough to earn a spot for round one). But he's more likely to start at around the $180,000 mark based on past performances.

PREDICTED BEST 17:
Michael Gordon, Eric Grothe Jr, Blake Ayshford, Jonathan Wright, Beau Ryan, Todd Carney, Jeff Robson, Andrew Fifita, John Morris, Sam Tagataese, Luke Lewis, Wade Graham, Paul Gallen. Interchange: Isaac De Gois, Chris Heighington, Anthony Tupou, Matt Prior/Bryce Gibbs
BARGAIN BASEMENT: CHEAPIE ANALYSIS
Michael Lichaa:
The star hooker has made the Holden Cup Team of the Year for the last two seasons and is a mainstay for the Junior Kangaroos and NSW Under 20s. His 2013 was interrupted by injury, but expect Lichaa to get a crack in the top grade at some stage in 2014. That said, with the ever-reliable John Morris the No. 1 hooker at the club, Lichaa may have to settle for a bench spot (and we all know how poor bench hookers are for SuperCoach) or rely on injury to get a start.

Alipate Ratini (Note: Not yet re-signed for 2014):
The ridiculously-talented cousin of Marika Koroibete took the NSW Cup by storm last year. Ratini's defence can be shaking, but he is a machine with ball in hand and would provide plenty of attacking stats for SuperCoach. To earn a first grade call-up, he'd have to fight past the likes of Grothe, Beau Ryan, Sosaia Feki, Ricky Leutele, Jonathan Wright and Nathan Stapleton.
KEEPER
Paul Gallen:
The best player in SuperCoach history will be an absolute must once again, provided he is cleared to play by ASADA and the NRL.
Paul Gallen will be an essential buy once again.

Andrew Fifita:
A golden rule of SuperCoach is to never pick a player after a career year. But judging by his displays in the World Cup, Fifita could be an exception. The NSW behemoth is a stats machine and will be in plenty of sides from round one.
NO GO ZONE: PLAYER TO AVOID
Luke Lewis:
The NSW star has proved to be a decent points-grabber over the years, but will miss the start of the season due to a dislocated shoulder suffered at the World Cup and has a general injury history to make any SuperCoach run scared.
