forget my previous posts on the board issues for now.

looking at this objectively, the top 25 squad for next year does not appear like it is going to contain any local juniors (born & bred locals..).

For me that is the beginning of the end for a community based club, especially the Sharks who's only relative "success" occurred when we were chock full of locals bleeding for the emblem. It is ripping the soul out of the club in my opinion.

Surely people should be as mildly outraged about this as other issues in recent times! (where's that stupid bb&w army now??)

I read a recent article that said the club was trying to re-connect to the community and the juniors and I applaud this.

BUT is that filtering down to the head coach or is he now free to run his own race because he is seen to be untouchable?

OR is the new board just all talk and no action?

Mate you and I are on the same page. Be careful though, many who call themselves Sharks supporters don't see it the same way. I'm not sure how long you have been supporting the Sharks but if it's as long as me then we have have a right to be peed off about what is happening.

The other day someone had a go about living in the past. Being a man of the 70's and 80's. Well for those uneducated Sharks fans, the 70's and 80's were/ are our only glory days. In all of those sides there were many local juniors. Household names: Go Docko, Go Bazza, Great tackle Danga, Come on Weapon Head, Top kick Mitch, Go Sparkles, Come on ET heard every week. Today footy is big business, yet this struggling 'family' club is still trying to compete against the big boys. We criticise the Rorters and Manly for stealing the juniors from other clubs, yet we don't have a junior or player from our lower grades in our current side. They do.

The run on side last Saturday had '0' juniors in it. Last year we had one or 2 in the 17 for the season.

Mate, some on here think that is a good thing. Personally, I think that it is the worst thing that is happening to the Sharks.

Flanagan has been the coach here for just on 3 years, he played for Parra, the Dragons and Magpies. He doesn't have the same investment in the Sharks as many of us do. He wants us to do well, I don't doubt this but in a few years he will be gone and we will still be here. His recruitment and retention of players is damaging the club long term. Yes he has signed some good players but it seems that his clear message to the Junior ranks is that he doesn't rate you. He prefers Robson, Morris, Pomeroy, Tupou before any of you. He wont pay overs for you if you are a junior but he will pay overs for you if experienced, have played origin and have a name.

What happens between now and the end of the year in regard to this will define us for this period. I am happy with our forwards but with the exception of one or two, we have the worst backs in the comp. There is just no ability to score points against the good sides (unless we are behind)

Mate, I really hope we are wrong but I've supported this joint all my life and to me what is happening feels wrong.

I think someone in the club owes the members an explanation - if they think they don't then they truly do believe they are now untouchable

The board doesn't make decisions on what players to recruit or retain. It's the coach.

I don't see the issue so much as no local juniors in the side, as maybe those guys just aren't good enough. I see the issue as more as having bugger players in the top side that have come through our under 20's, whether they were local juniors or not.

The problem is that there are young players at the club or who were at the club who have come through our under 20's program to become good payers only to be let go I.e. Frizzel, Bakuya, Townsend, Peachey with more to come.

The problem behind this is one person only - Flanagan

Ill be surprised if some of you blokes havent planned your own funeral, maybe, just maybe flanno and sharpie have an eye for what it takes to make it from a young age (dont bring blokes like pom or robbo into it cos they were given their shot way before) who knows what goes on at training or what info is passed around by coaching staff regarding these young blokes.
The coaches know well and good that they are in a cut throat position and chances are they wont be here in 3 years when mills or chad might start playing like they deserve to be in 1sts every week
I am by no means a flanno lover but for trucks sake the bloke has got us from 3rd last to just outside the top 4 in a year and a half, he wants to win the comp just as much as we do so let him have a go and guess what if it doesnt pay off someone else that nobody likes will give it a red hot crack

Every coach wants to win a comp.
Most decent coaches however, will also have an eye on the future and bringing young talent through to mix in with the established guys so they can take over the reigns.
Have a look at next years squad so far and ask yourself how many of them will be around in 3 years time.

So why weren't you giving it to Irvine and the board when we lost Douglass and Snowden? Why weren't you giving it to them when we lost Frizell and Smith?

Approval may be required from the board on signing or retaining a player with behaviour issues but to think that the board has any say at all on what players are signed is ludicrous. It's the coaches decision, plain and simple.

I give up trying to have an intelligent conversation about an important matter..

let Flanagan explain to the members then what he is doing if he doesn't have to answer to anyone else - we after all own the club

none of them were juniors and were all replaced with similar quality players - how is that relevant to what I said, the 2014 squad, and the pathway to 1st grade for future junior sharks?

the fact is we a coach who is seemingly untouchable because of events this year and is only looking at his next contract - I just want to see something from someone that there is a plan in place.

also, I don't give a toss who's on the board as long as they don't stuff it up and I have repeatedly said that I think there are some good people in there - but the one thing I actually did support them on as a whole, was the junior league emphasis and unless I hear differently, they are letting me down on this

So you want him to come and list the players he is looking to poach from other sides yes? Since when have coaches ever told us the specifics of their recruitment strategies???

How are they letting you down excatly have they removed funding from the junior system? Are the players not interacting with the community and juniors sides? There is so much more to the "Junior System" then not being able to retain a couple of players.

Well why don't you wait until our recruitment is done before you blow up about not being able to replace Peach.

when did I mention Peachey specifically?

the thread is 2014 squad + I added more about the following years.

I'm happy to debate the merits of what I said but please read my posts properly
