lol i dont think anyone wants to actually change the format of the song

BUT imagine hearing that piano start, followed by a wicked drumline, some heavy guitar and basswork, and a MASSIVE chant section of the lyrics

Just an idea...
What if you put a shout out to all the local schools in the shire for them to write a sharks song. It could be as a band, a choir, an electronic dance track or hip hop...whatever. The winner could perform the song before the local derby in round 2. That would get all the young kids in bands interested in the sharks and make them feel like the sharks is their team.
Not many bands get to play in front of 15K+ fans (hopefully more for this game). If the song is a cracker it could be recorded and played after the toyota cup team victories.
That way we introduce some new fans, get a new song that the youngens can relate to, and also keep our heritage song for the first grade team.
We could get one of the local music shops to sponsor it and pay for all the advertising in the leader and so forth and call it the (eg the shire music sharks song challenge).
Thoughts??

You're not a loyal supporter if you think any Sharks teams would not want the original Up Up Cronulla played after a victory.
I've been a sharks supporter for a very very long time and when I do get down to a home game, all I want to do is sing along to OUR theme song after a victory.
The Bulldogs have created a family theme for their supporters. I'm sure they wouldn't play another song after a victory on their home ground.
I cannot believe a true Cronulla supporter would want another song played after a home ground victory. The idea disgusts me and I'm sure most players and supporters would agree.

I don't see why Up Up Cronulla can't be our victory song but we have other songs? The other songs don't have to be used as victory songs.

Fair enough, I'm sorry to hear you are so easily disgusted, that must be a terrible affliction.

The idea to play it after the NYC game was just a suggestion to add more incentive for the kids to get involved. Alternatively, it could be played at half time.
The main idea was for the winner to play it live on our opening home game in round 2. Remebering that we need to attract new fans and keep the old ones, this is my suggestion. Please feel free to voice yours.

I don't think it's a bad idea to have people actively involved in promoting the Sharks at all. No-one is suggesting it would replace our club song but a new, catchy song could be just another way to add to game day entertainment!:good:

The only other music that should be played at sharks home games is the jaws theme.

If you try to make a serious rock song about the club, it will probably end up sounding really lame. Most things like that do.

Up Up Cronulla is an upbeat victory song, which should be taken as such. It is not a serious anthem or anything, it's a catchy tune with a bit of heritage and a helluva lot of fun. It's a great drinking song which is fun and easy to sing along and dance stupid too. It's not something that is taken too seriously. That's why it works IMO.

Not sure if this is about my comment earlier, but I think the point might be missed here.

Its for the young shire kids who play music to be involved in acompetition where the winner plays round 2 home game. Its not to replace any other song, its not to be taken seriously as its a kids song, its not to top the billboard charts. Its simply for the sharks to connect with the young community and to have kids thinking about and talking about sharks.

As for the only music being the jaws theme, I remember when there was a lot more music. Some Rage against the machine is a good way to get the crowd pumped. I would love to have control over the music for one game.

My comment wasn't directed at what you said, or really at any other comment on here. It's just my general view on songs like that. I just don't think they usually end up sounding how they were intended to. I'm fine with holding a comp for kids or whatever.

Anyway, if I were to write a song about the Cronulla Sharks, I would make it extremely subtle and would give it double meanings. I would make it so that you would need to be told that it was about Cronulla to even realise that it was. I would purposely not use the following words:

Cronulla
Sutherland
Sharks (or any reference to eating or attacking)
The Shire
Rugby League
Football
Sport

I'd make it so that it could also be taken as a song about rebellion, mate-ship, oppression, adventure or something.

When you think about it, some of the best sporting songs in the world are not even really about the sport, but they can transfer across on another level (Eg You'll never walk alone, Simply the Best etc)

I think you must be reading every second word of this thread because you are missing the point here. Noone is saying to get rid of the up up cronulla anthom. Its an initiative to interest people in sharks in the off season. In that time there will be no song sung so you needn't worry. I can not see how that would work against the sharks.

Slide, I agree. Subtlety would be the best angle on this. As a competition though it would be up to whoever was judging to determine which song deserved the prize.

Maybe you could have an under 18s and an over 18s and they could both play centre field round 2. The more involved the better.

Up Up Cronulla is our Club and victory song and I love singing it when we win.

Ding! Ding! Ding-ding-da-ding-ding-ding-ding!

However, to me it is a VICTORY song... I have no problems with us having a Call To Arms or a Battle Cry song as well.

Just go and re-read the last couple of pages and try to take it all in. You haven't really comprehended what people are saying.

Sorry but I wouldn't want kids anywhere near doing a remix as that remix of Glory Glory to South Sydney some kid did in 2007 proved, I don't want kids anywhere near a remix of Up Up Cronulla.

Leave it the way it is or bring back Here Come the Sharks.
