I have only seen him play 3 games, He seems to get a lot of slice and often on his long kicks. He is only young (18?) that is an easy thing to fix. All of his other parts of his game seem good and strong.

Fox Sports' Matt Russell previews round 15 of the Toyota Cup

Fox Sports' Matt Russell previews round 15 of the Toyota CupFox Sports, Australia... against Cronulla and looms as a potential match-winner again. His acceleration and evasiveness is something to behold. It's first versus fourth in their first meeting of the year. I was lucky enough to see the Raiders' demolition of the Sharks, ...

Fox Sports' Matt Russell previews round 15 of the Toyota Cup

Get a kick of it

I was lucky enough to see the Raiders' demolition of the Sharks, who challenged for 60 minutes but again couldn't go the distance. Canberra ran in 10 tries and the first nine were converted by Mick Picker.

Kicking to make it 10 out of 10 in the 79th minute, the five-eighth missed narrowly - the wry smile as he ran back to the halfway line said it all.

It's worth mentioning that Cronulla's Chad Townsend kicked four from four in the best Toyota Cup goal-kicking game I have seen. Hazem El Masri would have been proud!

Toyota Cup preview: R12 - Fox Sports

Toyota Cup preview: R12
By Matt Russell
May 26, 2010

Fox Sports commentator Matt Russell takes his weekly look at the Toyota Cup, including previews of games at Cronulla and Melbourne.

<EDITED>

Chipper Chad

Without Chad Townsend, Cronulla would not have beaten Parramatta. Criticised for a poor kicking game in a Round 10 loss to Penrith, Townsend kept the ball in hand this time around to score the first double of his Toyota Cup career. For both tries he dummied and stepped his way though the Eels' defensive line. He converted all four of Cronulla's tries, the last from the sideline proving the difference in the end. Chad Townsend is other player to follow. He'll need another good performance if the Sharks are to beat Brisbane on Saturday. The Broncos boast NRL experience through Dale Copley in the backline and Dunamis Lui up front. They are also smarting after a massive upset loss to Gold Coast last start, which snapped a five-game winning streak. Join myself and Cam Smith for all the action as part of our Fox Sports Super Saturday coverage.

Chad Towsend...another legend from the mighty Yarrawarrah Tigers. I was talking to his mum after bumping into her at Pizza League at Yarrawarrah (where else?). She said that when he was four, he told her "Mum, I'm going to play for the Sharks one day!" and now he is.

Gotta love that sort of passion. Hope we will see him at halfback for the NRL team in a few years. Got the MOM award against Parra in the NYC on the weekend, great young player.:good:

The sort of local junior we should nourish. I hope he becomes a ten-year legend for us! :good:

A friend of mine has seen him play through the junior grades and reckons he has a lot of skill still in reserve... apparently was doing amazing things even in the U/10s but has played more structured here.

That's okay by me. So many young halves come through with all the skills in the world but unable to organise a team and control them round the park. To me, he looks like a kid who is a good learner, is doing what the coach wants him to do and will just get better and better as time goes on. Treat him well sharks! This one's a keeper. Best prospect we have.

Whilst he doesn't have Kelly's attacking flair Townsend is a much better organiser and leader (needed in a halfback)
