SG Ball Sharks Finish On Top

The Sharks SG Ball side has finished in first position after the end of the regular season following a 44-0 drubbing of South Sydney in their round nine match at Toyota Stadium.

The Sharks ran up a 20-0 half time advantage and went on with the job in the second half in running in nine tries in the match, centre Luke Pickerd crossing for three four pointers in taking his tally for the year to 13 from the nine games played. Daniel Moroko also grabbed a double in an impressive performance on the wing.

The young Sharks will now face the eight-placed team in the first round of finals matches next weekend and with the NSWRL junior reps now adopting the McIntyre semi final system will recieve a weeks rest should they win or a second chance if the result next week does not go their way.

The news wasnt so good for the Harold Matthews Cup side who were on the end of a similar scoreline in going down to Souths by 46-6. The Sharks, who were without a handful of players through injury, battled hard but were no match for the speed and power of their opponents.

The under-16 Sharks bow out of the competition after missing the finals following a season which produced three wins and five losses.

A bright spot for the Matthews Sharks was centre Jason Gray, who missed the Souths clash witha quadriceps injury, finishing towards the top of the leading pointscorers list with 72 points in total from nine tries and 18 goals.

Luke Pickerd must be some kind of freak, he has scored tries in just about every game. Surely he is destined for first grade and must be signed up long term.
