Great story.

Royce has the potential and I hope he has a ripper next season.

Interesting he wasn't just the biggest kid in the team either.
He is 13 in that photo. That’s a school u15 team in the year he turned 14, but the photo will have been taken 2-3 months before his 14th birthday. The other kids in his team could be up to 20 months older than he is.

I assume he was the one of the biggest 13 year old’s running around, so would have been a stand out playing against kids his own age. Still impressive being selected to play in a team/carnival with players so much older.

It’s a really nice family story, and another good example that where you play and who you play footy against when you are young makes very little difference. At 18 he was back living in NSW, and he was signed after playing for the NSWCHS rep team. 18 year-old Royce Hunt wasn’t any worse off for not having played high div footy in Brisbane or Sydney when he was 16.

Jesse Offen is in that first photo too. He played for the Sharks junior reps.

In fact at that 15s National Carnival, it is announced over the Pa when making awards, that most likely that is the highest level that the majority of the 13/14 yo players there are likely to achieve ( but said in a congratulatory/positive way) in their careers. Reinforces Burgess' comments, and that the real push is from 17 yo approx.

Well at least a couple have also played senior rep footy for WA, and one from the younger pic too
Maybe CAS but I'm not sure about that one

Maybe what the PA announcer means is that being towelled up by the NSW u14's is the pinnacle of any WA player's career...

Except @bort, Josh Rogers, Cory Paterson and the guys in those photos of course ;)

Haha both those guys are definitely better than me!

Has been quite a few WA players to play NRL over the years, although many obviously had East Coast family origins. And I can see the list didn't try and make a claim for Kayln Ponga who left WA before he'd ever played League, but was born here.
And plenty of WA guys have played Qld/NSW Cup but not managed to make the next step.

Fremantle Roosters

South Perth Lions

Canning Bulldogs

North Beach Sea Eagles

Belmont Steelers

Joondalup Giants

Willagee Bears

Ellenbrook Rabbitohs

South Headland Cougars

Yeah - I’d consider playing Cup a bigger achievement that making a National u15’s carnival.

I don’t think most people appreciate what a high standard of footy Cup actually is, and how much effort and commitment is required to play at that level. I played with guys who made the Qld u19’s team but never played a single Q Cup game because by the time they turned 20 work or uni commitments didn’t let them train enough.

Had scans Monday I think so probably just waiting now for the results.
An NRL club would get results later that day I assume

It’s simply a matter of when someone gets around to looking at it. Or, for a bit of a delay, if they need to send them to a specialist for some additional info.

I’ve had scans first thing in morning and been told to come back after 2pm but had a phone call 45 minutes later telling me to go to hospital.

Also a matter of if and when they can be bothered to tell the public.

That's an entirely different matter isn't it

We have seen current staff are not fussed about keeps fans informed.
Unless it was something significant I expect won't see anything until maybe a footnote in the team list a week from now if he isn't named

It's definitely somewhere we can improve. A 2 minute update a week from the head physio/strength and conditioner should be standard practice for all teams.

Especially since Pilot sponsor us and it seems to be part of the arrangement

Newcastle did a great job of it last year. Few minutes, overview of how each injured player was tracking and a target for return.
