Wade Graham has captained the Sharks ever since club legend Paul Gallen retired in 2019, but that looks set to change next season.

Although Graham re-signed for 2023, the 32-year-old is in the twilight of his career — and may even find himself starting off the bench next season.

For that reason, Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon is considering appointing Graham co-captain along with veteran forward Dale Finucane, according to News Corp.

Star halfback and Dally M winner Nicho Hynes is also said to be an option.

Regardless of what way Fitzgibbon goes, Graham is expected to have some sort of leadership role next season — which is expected to be his last in the NRL.

Great decision. Joint captains can be ****, but I'd go Graham as club captain, and Dale/Hynes as co-captains on the field. Given Dale doesn't play 80/misses a few games I think it needs to be shared.

Every time this thread gets bumped up I tune in hoping he has had a rethink and will retire immediately. No luck yet.

I actually like how much it triggers people Wade hanging around

or maybe it's just summer, there's a football world cup on and it's easier to care alot less about RL

I swear that article about Wade has been written a hundred times before word for word, they just changed the players name

We must be getting close to the point that google can just write these articles from an auto-script and the journo's can be sent to that big ol notepad in the sky

I dont' even think Dale needs to have the C next to his name - He, Wade and McInnes can lead by example.

I'd give it to Nicho, he seems the next captain anyway, or atleast make him VC with Graham as C when he's on the field.

Well hopefully a good preseason with Talakai next to him will turn things around.

While I’m not without criticism of Wade and think on a blank reputation Wilton wins that spot let’s not forget…

Talakai did most of last pre season as a forward, Wade would have been still managing his return from headknocks. This year they can have a proper preseason (assuming Talakai returns as expected).

Wade didn’t play rounds 1-7 either and came in rusty, played 3 games coming off the bench. We won the first 6 games he started. In fact outside of finals he only lost one game starting (a good effort against the panthers round 19).
Our record without Wade starting was 6-5.

To repeat, Wade starting: 12-3, not starting: 6-5

Throw in Talakai became one of the most marked men in the NRL round 8 just as Wade came into the side, and also hurt his shoulder in origin (round 16 onwards)

So I’m optimistic he will prove he deserves the contract and jersey. Keen for a Fifita like reputation saver of a final year.
