Expansion to 17 teams - welcome to the Dolphins.

First time since 1999(and only other time) we’ve had 17 team.

I thought it would interesting to compare the 2 comps.

1999 Teams

Cronulla
Parramatta
Melbourne
Roosters
Canterbury
St George Illawarra
Newcastle
Brisbane
Canberra
Penrith
Warriors
Souths
Cowboys
Manly
Balmain
Wests
Norths

2023 Teams

Cronulla
Parramatta
Melbourne
Roosters
Canterbury
St George Illawarra
Newcastle
Brisbane
Canberra
Penrith
Warriors
Souths
Cowboys
Manly
Wests Tigers
Gold Coast
Dolphins

So in nearly 25 years, even though there has been some expansion, it’s been pretty minimal. No new areas. Just the same places we’ve already had in the past

TBH it's surprising we're still here, in our original incarnation.

25yrs from now we will still be here, along with another variation on the Gold Coast brand and the Perth Bears

Yeah, I'd like to think we have 3 or 4 Gold Coasts left in us.

Going to be an interesting comp next year... both Parra and Penrith are going to be worse (although Penrith have plenty of depth).

Penrith have that next up mentality. I can’t see them dropping off anytime soon, especially after winning every grade GF so far.

Doggies should improve a bit, roosters are never low for long, tigers will be interesting to watch. Like you said, should make for an interesting season.

No reason we can’t be there abouts again come next season

Speaking of the lower grades: Do you guys know why we are competing under Newtown Jets instead of having a Sharks team (like the Panthers and the others)?

Thanks. How come the other teams do not do it this way?
I'm not overly sure of the ins and outs but there are pros and cons.

We have less control over team selections, we don't get home games etc. On the plus side its a huge cost reduction.

I guess that's the perfect situation for a team who was short on cash. If you're a rich club though you'd rather have full control.
