Whenever I hear Tyrone I straight away think of Tyrone from Snatch - "Don't worry about Tyrone, he can move when he has to"

I’m old so I just immediately think of Tyrone Power, the movie actor. Even he wasn’t original though, he was officially Tyrone Power Jnr.

Great flick, shame Madonna castrated Guy Ritchie, hasn't made a decent film since he met her

Newtown usually post up the trial squads a couple of days beforehand bort. In the past it has just been a list of names though rather than jersey numbers.

Lost 8-4 to Mounties in their trial

Here is the team. No massive surprises - but it confirms Cullen and Uele have returned from last year. Josh Rudolph, Reed Alchin and Eli Levido are all new players, but we'll see if they stick around after trials. Rudolph has previously played a bit for Redcliffe, Levido has spent time in both the Q Cup and NSW Cup, and Alchin played in the Newcastle comp last year. I don't know if he is related to Jason.

Glebe also played a trial and won 8-4.

Notice Kurt Dillon is there. Probably a nice guy but just destined to be a lower grade plodder isn't he?

He played for them last year too.

The last couple of years have been great for guys outside the top 20 or so getting a run, but pretty tough on players who don’t have a top 30 or dev deal going in to the year They couldn’t play or train for much of the time with their Cup squads, and a train/trial NRL contract is less money than what they can earn working a real job.

At NSW Cup level I’m sure plenty would rate Dillon over other guys who played NRL games over the last 2 seasons, but timing is everything. Plenty of players - particularly middles - have gone on to become useful NRL players after they didn’t make it at 21/22.

From the Sharks system over the years you have guys like Joliffe, Peek, Latimore, Beattie and Nutley - plus Hunt and Talakai. No stars there, but some good solid players who broke in late.

Burgess who was the bloke who'd played in England and had a drug suspension who played for jets last year?

Can't remember his name but do have vague memories of him trialling well last year for us?

Edit: it wasn't Uele was or have I completely lost the plot?

Devon Makoaire-Boyce also played in the trial. He wasn’t on the team list I posted earlier. He played for South’s NSW Cup previously.

Gabe Hanlon was it someone, and seriously the trial was not that good
Gabe Hamlin, that was him! Yea I think it was mostly the similiar last name to Braden that I was vaguely remembering for.

Kurt Dillon is defs a plodder. Can't think of many forwards that have played NRL I would have him over. He has been very meh at the top level granted only had 5 games but there is nothing special about him

He's at an age now that we should be seeing his best but he will be lucky to see another NRL game without an injury crises

Nothing against him, hes just very average and doesn't seem to offer much outside of reggies

What I meant was that he lost the majority of the last 2 years of development at a pretty prime age. We don’t know how good he may have been if he was still able to train and play professionally during that time.

People said for years that Fogerty would never cut it - but the timing panned out perfectly in his favour. He signed a development deal just a few weeks before Covid hit, got to keep playing, training and earning money during the shutdown - and now less than 2 years later he’s making 7-8x that amount from a team who actively pursued him.

I’m no Kurt Dillon hugger - but timing is everything for guys like this.

Not dismissing your point burgess and it's a good one. Just judging on what we have seen.

Little to no football definitely has made things harder for these blokes than it should have.

I still feel he's a Josh Cordoba type that can maybe do a basic forward role but ultimately has a low ceiling on ability

If he's bigger and stronger now he should go better as he needed to show more impact in his runs for mine

I had high hopes for Kurt after there seemed to be a lot of hype in his younger days.

Have to admit that I was a bit disappointed when I saw him in the top grade.

May have been more suited to rugby league in an earlier era when toughness and stamina were more important in a prop than some other attributes valued in the modern game e.g. pace from a standing start.

Like Burgo said, bad timing for his development with the whole covid thing. Hope he improves with game experience and gets a decent career.

The Jets will play a trial against the Bulldogs as a curtain-raiser to the Sharks/Bulldogs game.

Kick-Off: 4.45pm.

*

Edit - since the Sharks game has been moved to one hour earlier, so has this one. Kick off is now 3:45pm.
