or that they are better players at the respective points of their careers but yes Canberra pack is superior to ours

We don't have a point of comparison for Blayke playing behind their pack, them playing behind our pack etc
Certainly Starling looks better I won't argue that. Think Hodgson is already on the way out as a full time 9 but perhaps a good demo of how we can use Cam and Blayke.

According to their team websites Tom is 172cm and 80kg and Blayke is 180cm and 80kg so Tom is shorter but quite a bit more solid.
For comparison also Reece is 180cm 93kg so again much more solid than Blayke. Even Liddle who was also mentioned 2 years older than these other guys but 184cm and 91kg so again, bigger than Blayke.

I've very hopeful we will see Blayke stack on some kilos over the offseason as that extra weight and muscle in the middle will help him a lot in defence and also likely with his confidence to run.
Blayke is off contract after next year and we have Cam for a while so it is a very important year for him in terms of his career trajectory.

NRL 2021: Hooker power rankings 16-1

https://www.sportingnews.com/au/lea...n-cook-api-koroisau/rmstut411pr01tbr1rhx54hzm

BB ranked 11th
JB 4th edging out Harry Grant which is surprising.
Coming in at 1 is no surprise thou. The big cheese!

TBF to BB, our pack wasn’t as dominant as the Knights and our team stability was also worse off so that would inhibit his game somewhat.

11. Blayke Brailey - Sharks
24 games - 2 tries, 5 try assists, 4 linebreak assists, 40 tackles per game

Another solid but perhaps unspectacular season for the local junior.
Brailey played in every game for the Sharks in 2021 as they missed out on the finals, and while he continues to be a consistent performer, he's yet to fully kick on the way many expected him to.
The 22-year-old has become Cronulla's sole hooker and is playing 80 minutes in the middle on a weekly basis, which could be having an impact on his output in attack.
Things will be very interesting for Brailey this off-season, with Dragons hooker Cameron McInnes joining the club on a long-term deal.

4. Jayden Brailey - Knights
22 games - 3 tries, 4 try assists, 5 linebreak assists, 47 tackles per game

A huge year for the new Knights skipper, taking over from Mitchell Pearce and leading his side to a finals berth.
After missing the majority of 2020 due to a serious knee injury, Brailey hit the ground running this year and was arguably their best player this year.
The 25-year-old showed consistency, class and toughness throughout the entire campaign, missing just a few games and playing 80 minutes in the middle on nearly a weekly basis.
While he might not be the flashiest player in his position, Brailey had a career year and it really begs the question to the Cronulla Sharks whether they let go of the wrong brother.

Jayden is way too high imo. If you look at the stats they're not that different to Blayke's.

Feel like Blayke should be higher but also feel he hasn't kicked on enough yet so not going to lose sleep over it.

Still think we kept the right brother.

Scratching my head on that, I would take a guess & say, given the opportunity, every club would take H Brant over JB, obviously not the journo who wrote & compiled the article.

I'd say Harry's lack of footy and sharing duties would have knocked his chances of appearing higher.

I can't actually put a finger on why I feel JB is better than BB. Maybe it's just that we need more attack from that position because we don't have a Pearce or Ponga. Not BB's fault, but a source of frustration because we've seen there's more to his game than he shows each week.

I still dont think either us or Newcastle lost in that situation. I don’t think there was a right or wrong brother, both are good in my eyes.

There is some serious hooker talent available to chat with from November.

Smith
Grant
Mahoney
Api

All free to leave at the same time Blake finishes up. I personally still think Blayke will turn out a great hooker, but damn I wouldn't be disappointed in signing one of these guys, esspecially the top 3.

Small blurb in a larger article about the players free to talk from Nov 1 and Brailey is mentioned.

Says Mooney has begun discussions with his manager and Fitz is keen to lock him up straight away.

I wouldn't be signing him for longer than two years at this stage.

2 years is definitely the way to go.

Or we should be looking at B Smith? Throw Fifitas money at him.

Would love to see Smith here but I can't see us giving him Dolphin money. We just don't need him that badly

With B Smith's family reportedly moving to the banana state, I'll be surprised if he isn't one of the Dolphin's first signings.

Isn’t there a 3rd Brailey that is meant to be the better 9 of all 3?
Not suggesting that we need to replace BB as he is still very young and has a lot of promise, but we have brother # 3 as another bite at the cherry!
Apparently.
