He'll be fine .
McInnes will iron out any kinks in his game and tutor him
Brailey will be physically stronger and playing behind a better pack next year will shine

Yeah I agree and at least reserve judgement until he has a decent pack along side him and new coach to guide him .

I can also see Mcinness playing the first 20 Smith / Grant style at times next year ..

It easy to compare him to Smith and Grant as they played the same position but it’s not even close to being the same thing,

Look at the metres per set difference and the difference in the play the ball speed. This enables hookers to play like Smith and Grant.

Each time Smith and Grant take a run they also have players pushing with them. Brailey needs to stop at the line still to find a player most of the time.

we can compare them cause smith/grant are quality and what we should aspire to have or get close to in a hooker, the sort of 9's that can win you games and ultimately a premiership. Blayke is no where near the level we need him to be as a club pushing for top 4

throw Blayke in the storm team and he would be better sure but throw smith/grant in our sharks team and they would still completely outclass what Blayke is giving us and make a far bigger difference for us on the field

not giving up on Blayke yet, I think he will actually go better next year , maybe even get that mojo back but if he doesn't I think we might have to look at moving on from him at contract time. with inexperienced halves its even more important for us that our hooker can shoulder some load with the ball

This is just “Chad kicks it to the same winger” all over again. Brailey is playing like this because his coach wants him to. He’s not scared ffs.

our coach wants him to be mediocre? granted Hannay is not a great coach but it's not just running or kicking. other parts of his game could be better too . he lacks that vision, instinct, guile, craftiness whatever you want to call it and doesn't make up for it with niggle or aggressiveness

I will concede that most weeks Blayke doesn't look comfortable or natural so coaching / lack of guidance would be a factor and the lack of support runners isn't his fault . coach should be all over that getting the team working better with him

With egg and little bits of pork

and shrimp (little prawns)

You don't think Ennis took the line on?

cam smith took the line on too but its all the quality things he did when he wasn't running it that made him the influential and effective player he was

I think we need Blayke coming from the bench unless he can show us a more complete style of hooker play

What a silly thing to say. They would be performing better if they played in our system, yes, but that’s because they’re better players lol.

The poor kid has to take the first contact and tackling of some useless defensive people around him.
He is going enjoy next year with some good defensive middles. This will improve his attack.
With Price back next year I hope our middle defence will be a lot better.

not silly in context of what I was replying to which seemed to allude that Blaykes struggles are mostly down to the 2 different teams forward packs, metres, PTB speed ect when it's actually more about the yawning gap in quality between Blayke and those other hookers

the sharks being a middling team and the storm being the best team obviously exasperates those differences but doesn't fully explain them. Blayke is rank AF.
There are teams further down the ladder than us with superior options @ 9

The guy is 22 playing behind a team that is leaking the most tacked on the comp and not going forward. That's exhausting **** for a hooker and is still doing alright in general. Another year and a better pack and this guy will just get better.

That’s just hyperbole. Name me the hooker you’d prefer from the bottom 8 sides.

it's not exaggeration mate when their are legit examples , not sure if you have seen much of the non sharks games this year - there are 9's out performing Blayke who are from even worse teams than us

tom starling
reece robson
josh hodgson

yep I have liked starling and robson and on this season you could also add Havili from the Raiders and Jake Granville who had a form reversal

and then you have some of the no namers who haven't been far off where Blayke is though perhaps a little less consistent

Starling, Robson, Hodgson - I would have 1 of those 3 over Blayke

Probably doesn't hurt Starling and Hodgson that the Canberra pack has a bit more grunt than ours

Havili and Grantville are rubish. Would prefer Blayke than the two of them.

On another note, I don't think there is a player that throws more forward passes that are missed than Grantville.

Maybe Jacob Liddle? he has played some good games this year in a absolutely terrible side. His stats almost read identical to Blayke

What about Cam McInnes from the Dragons below us? Out injured this year but he’s handy.

or that they are better players at the respective points of their careers but yes Canberra pack is superior to ours

the forward pass thing is this weird way that he twists his body when passing I think but yea they don't look that hidden when watching over the play on the Tele but maybe it fools the refs who are useless with picking up forward passes most of the time anyway

which is why I didn't say I would prefer either of them to Blayke. Simply noted that Granville had a resurgence of form this season and has been more dangerous and effective than Blayke but Jake is at back end of career and was garbage in previous seasons so would keep the younger Blayke with upside over him.

Havili is basically a props body but an interesting and at times very dangerous player @ 9. Wouldn't back him over Blayke as a long term 9 prospect though
