Sure once Fitz, gives him the confidence boost going into the off season that he is our 7 for 2022, it will be the shot in the arm he needs…to knuckle down pre season and take his and our game to the next level .

Yes mate agree with this and he does have the chance to be as good as Cronk if he works hard at it.

He has the potential - he is not zippy but I don't think Cronk was all that quick either. Cronk worked like a Trojan at his game and perfected his kicking and game management. If Trindall can do that over the next year or two with solid coaching behind him, who knows what he is capable of. Big call I know but the ball is in his court.

Jesus that is a big call mate!!

The good thing about Tricky is the effort is there. Some of his scrambling defence is a good indicator of this.

Yes mate. I'm not saying he's going to reach Cronk's heights but Cronk really wasn't on the radar when he was Tricky's age, he was still trying to establish himself. Bellamy probably saw it but not many others.

All this chat just indicates how important it is that we get a high-caliber halves coach in.

A much better game from Trindall this week & the accolades are flowing, I just hope we give him time & leniency, as with younger halves, it’s a roller coaster, some weeks good, some weeks bad, he’s shown enough glimpses of play in his game to show he has some natural ability which you can never coach.

Let’s get the bread & butter sorted with him with good coaching & I believe we have a more than good 7 on our hands.

Not good enough mate, needs to be a 9/10 every week or the ****er can piss off.

He's an NRL veteran now, step up!

Should also remember he has 20 games next to his name, but how many of those has he actually started and played 80 in the halves?

Maybe 8? Just gotta give him a chance.

I think we will cheap out and Holdsworth (who is part of our assistant coaching staff next season as well) will continue to be the bloke that works with our halves

great bloke and all and happy to have him around the team helping out but can he impart ideas and knowledge onto players that he himself never had the talent or ability to execute himself or is the theory and teaching alone sufficient?

Just feel there are candidates out there that could better impart more subtleties and skills of halves play upon our young play makers but not all great halves are great teachers either. You hear mixed reviews of some of the big names

On the other hand Daniel came through as AC for U20's so is used to working with young inexperience and some of our current players and is currently our Elite development coach / AC . Trindal and Metcalf are starting to hit their straps so he can't be doing a bad job

Agree. The surprising thiong with him is how much confidence he has and voice. A good 7 is an alpha male and tells people what to do. I have seen this bloke bark at others and they do what he wants.

A good sign.

You can't hold Holdsworth's career against him when some of the best coaches in the game weren't exactly elite players, and as you said some who were can't coach.
You can know something (and importantly, know how to teach it) without physically being an elite player yourself.

There was video earlier this year of Holdsworth showing stuff to SJ who certainly should know more already than the likes of Trindall and Metcalf.

Maybe Holdsworth is a dud but as you indicated there certainly isn't any real evidence he is or isn't so we will just have to assume (/hope) he is more than capable. In saying that if we splashed for someone we (the club) felt was noticeably better I wouldn't complain.

We had 1.6m set aside for Bellamy so there's absolutely no reason for us to do this.

Surely it wouldn't cost a heap to have someone come in a day or two a week.

Well Bellamy has seen Trindall and let him go so we can safely say he is no Cronk.

He also let Hynes go so should we just call it on him also?

I don't think Trindall got too expensive to keep whereas it would have been tough for them to keep Hynes on with already an absolutely stacked spine. But you're probably right he also won't be Croft.
Plenty of Storm fans (not that they judge as well as Bellamy) wish they'd kept him over Paps though

I’d still get a guy in to challenge him though. We need a controlling, game managing half on the books because we don’t have one. It just gives a different option. I’m starting to think O’Sullivan could be a decent idea if he can’t secure a guaranteed spot elsewhere. Just as backup and to keep the heat on Trindall.

Literally just for dropped for Chad, are you sure that's what you want?
