I’ve got a wifi extender and for the most part its good, a connection issue here and there but not enough for it to be a massive issue.

For online game though, a cable is always going to be better then wifi, but depending on the location of your young fellas PC or console to your modem it could be a pain in the arse. Maybe look at Power line adapters, these basically turn the electrical wiring of your house into network cables. Plug one into a wall socket near your modem and club a Ethernet cable into it, then plug the other into a wall socket next to your young fellas computer and run a cable from it to the computer/console. If your electrical wiring in your house is generally in ok nick, he should see a noticeable difference as opposed to wifi.

Downside is that these usually go for anywhere between $100 to $250.

Not saying its the best solution because I don’t know enough about this to say that categorically, maybe someone with more knowledge can confirm or deny it, but from what I know, its a very good solution.

The 22yo had the ethernet cable straight into PC
13yo wants it into a ps4.
it worked a few years back for the 22yo - cabling straight in so...

I did get our smart TV in bedroom hooked via ethernet cable when we did the reno back in 2017 - it is now back to wifi for some reason and same issues with wifi - hard to pick up from other end of house

Even better, get a decent mesh system. They're a bit more expensive, but you'll get really fast wifi everywhere in the house that's just about as good as a hardwired point. Some extenders don't have great speed, especially the more affordable ones, so you're kid is still going to get p0wned on Fortnite.
I'd spend about $250 on a mesh system. It's a bit to invest, but you shouldn't have any issues anywhere in the house again.

Ive never heard of a mesh system until you guys mentioned it??? off to google I go!!

thanks to everyone for the input. appreciated. will keep looking into the options;

hehe hope it's helpful. I didn't know anything about them either. Now I can access our wifi at the park down the street.... Might have gone a little overkill with the coverage :D

Oh that’s funny. Ripping.

More seriously though, I 'lurk' on a bunch of other forums or similar platforms. Most of the time due to the fact I just can't be bothered to engage. It's quite common.

I would agree 83 sounds like a lot though.

The trolls are the ones we hear from mate :)
Lurkers are the tire kickers who have read the exchanges and don't have the fortitude to get amongst it and post. Yeah, I'm looking at you, Riccio.

If your house is wired on a single circuit ethernet over powerline is the bomb as mentioned uses your house wiring like it is cable. Each access point can also have a wireless port and an ethernet port so you are plugged in. I get 99.8 mbs at the front of the house and in my office at the furthest point from the router get 85 mbs.
