Three CEO's in 12 months.

Absolutely disingenuous bull**** from the media again.

By that dumb definition, anyone that has a CEO stint that lasts less than 12 months has had "Three CEO's in 12 months".

Most people would assume that meant 3 had started in the 12 month period. Not that the trail end of one CEO and the future start of a hypothetical new CEO will happen in the 12 month period.

FMD ,
How do we end up with such incompetence running the Sharks.
Preeeks that don't even give a ratz about the future and well being of the club itself .
Self serving faaaacwitz.
Bring back Damo.
At least he gave his heart and soul to the place .
Seems like ALL that effort might be going down the drain .

Yeah true but still, it's three in a relatively short period of time.

Would be nice to have some stability.

Sharks part ways with CEO Richard Munro

The Cronulla Sharks are on the hunt for a third CEO in 12 months after the club on Tuesday announced businessman Richard Munro would be leaving.

Munro took over in April and among of long "to-do list" was the re-build of the Sharks home ground and Leagues Club, which requires the club to spend two seasons "away".

Their home games this year will be played at Netstrata Jubilee Oval in nearby Kogarah, which they will share with arch-rivals St George Illawarra.

Munro was due to have chaired a special general meeting of the Cronulla Sutherland Leagues Club on January 23 at which members would vote on a proposal to amalgamate with Sporties @ Kareela Golf Club.

The move was designed to give Sharks members club-like facilities while their leagues club undergoes major renovations.

Was this his baby ?

Munro most definitely wanted to stay. The only way to spin it as a mutual decision is that certain individuals on the board made him want to leave by making his tenure impossible and continually making the workplace an uncomfortable place to be.

I have spoken to both sides and there are completely differing stories but given a gag order has been signed by all involved the story won't be coming out. Who knows where the truth is. One side says that there are deep divisions on the board and some extremely unsavoury characters have taken control- the other that the board is unequivocally united and working towards the same goal as always.

There have been some staggering financial decisions made that will come out in 2021.

Whichever way you slice it this is bad news for the club. What I do know is that the NRL has demanded stability in our coaching and executive management positions and we have been told that there are no more bail outs coming and here we are with more unexpected churn and some very concerning finance stuff on the go. Greenberg needs a big scalp to gain favour with V'landys and playing hardball with a small club which shows all the signs of being a rabble would be a perfect Waterloo for him. Munro had integrity- he wouldnt swallow backwater footy club moves. Everything about this points to the conspiracy theories that we wont be back from Kogarah.

What we need to know is where is the $40 million- how much remains if any and what is it allocated to?
Thanks, interesting. I was never totally impressed by Munro (he just seemed a bit too corporate to be happy here), but also still concerned about the board. There can't be too many boards where one Director works for another.

There should be another triennial election coming up soon, normally nomination forms are available in January/February. Hopefully we can get some strong independent candidates. The eligibility rules make it so difficult to get good candidates. Are you eligible to stand?

I'm sure he had flaws (e.g. being an LNP fanboy for one) but he genuinely was a leader at the Sharks that believed in them and was loyal to them. The Sharks really need someone like that right now.

Sure but the third one could last 20 years. No one knows yet because they don't even exist!

Munro was the third though. In the last few years we've lost, Lyall, Russell and now Munro.

Actually wasn't there that ex Tradies dude somewhere in there as well?

I have no problem with this. Craig Sandercock is extremely capable and hard working and comes at a fraction of a cost of Griffin. It seems a sensible business decision.
Paying certain ex players who are mates with board members fat contracts to barely show up to training is more worrying for mine.

That’d concern me too but surely other clubs do it as well.

Also I’ve texted my mate who worked with Munro at the Star but no news there and since there’s a gag clause I doubt he’ll be able to say anything either.

I am. I have been approached by several people to run.

There are 4 spots coming up- Dino, the Lawyer and two vacants. That is not enough numbers to enact meaningful change and there would then be a storm over who gets to be chairman. I definitely do not want to be Chairman.

Do I need that stress in my life? I dunno. You need bugger all votes to get on- being elected is not the issue.

Now that I think about it maybe 4 is enough to enact meaningful change. There are 9 on the board and Sorenson votes pretty much whichever way Peter Gow tells him to.

If you could swing him you have a majority but getting a ticket of 4 quality candidates wouldn't be the easiest thing in the world. There's no point in getting on if you don't have a varied ticket of quality skill sets and people with integrity that can steer the club in the right direction and to be quite honest I don't know if I have those people in my network that have been members for 3 years and care enough about the club.

In all honesty I'll be amazed if the club exists in its current state in say 2035.

Totally fair question and glad you asked it.

I know that uni degrees aren’t the be all and end all but given that the highest qualification on there currently is a law degree and a grad diploma I’d say I am an upgrade on most on there given I have an MBA.

I’m on the board of one company at the moment (but am not a director- it’s complicated) but given the chairman is ex chairman and CEO of the multi billion dollar Macquarie Group I couldn’t think of a better place to learn.

Hell, I don’t even know if it’s the right thing to run. I’m trying to run 3 businesses- all the blokes on their are moneyed up and have heaps of time. I have neither.
