And we know for a fact he was the one that left and wasn’t asked to leave?
No that’s why I say guess. I just think a more likely scenario than any big conspiracy. I don’t think he was ever really expecting the next two years when he took the job.

Awesome recruiting if that question wasn't posed at his interview?

I'm so over the untold bull**** year after year.

Maybe he was given the boot because it's been one week into the new year and we hadn't done anything stupid yet.

Gotta hit them KPI's

The Cronulla Sharks are on the hunt for a third CEO in 12 months after the club on Tuesday announced businessman Richard Munro would be leaving.

Munro, former general manager of hospitality at The Star in Sydney and head of AAA (Accommodation Association of Australia), was appointed the Sharks group chief executive in April last year after former Rothman's Medallist and Sharks player Barry Russell resigned.

In a brief statement, the Sharks said Munro and the club would be parting "effective immediately".

"The Sharks thank Mr Munro for his dedication and service during this time at the club," the statement said.

"The Board of Directors will make a decision as to a potential replacement and make those announcements in due course."

NRL.com understands the mutual decision came about over the future direction of the club, and not for any other reason.

Cronulla hasn't had the happiest of times off the field in recent years.

Salary cap irregularities were self-reported to the NRL by Russell in 2018, which led to a reduced fine by league headquarters when sanctions were handed down in early March last year. Munro had no involvement with the club at that time.

However, there is a $700,000 cap penalty spread over two seasons (2019-2020).

Russell resigned a few days later.

During those NRL investigations, they found a trail of emails from former head coach Shane Flanagan to club officials during his season-long ban in 2014 over the ASADA illegal supplements. Flanagan was supposed to have no contact with the club during that time and was subsequently deregistered by the NRL.

He will return as an assistant coach at St George Illawarra this season.

Former player and 300-game NRL veteran John Morris took over as coach in late January last year for the 2019 season.

Munro took over in April and among of long "to-do list" was the re-build of the Sharks home ground and Leagues Club, which requires the club to spend two seasons "away".

Their home games this year will be played at Netstrata Jubilee Oval in nearby Kogarah, which they will share with arch-rivals St George Illawarra.

Munro was due to have chaired a special general meeting of the Cronulla Sutherland Leagues Club on January 23 at which members would vote on a proposal to amalgamate with Sporties @ Kareela Golf Club.

The move was designed to give Sharks members club-like facilities while their leagues club undergoes major renovations.

I have a good mate who worked with Richard Munro at the Star. Not sure what he’ll know but it won’t hurt to ask. They still keep in touch.

I’m visualising one P.Gould of Cronulla riding in a white stallion. Will gather everyone from afar and give something similar to a Braveheart motivational speech to the masses.

Three CEO's in 12 months.

No footy at Shark Park for two years.

No merch with memberships anymore, yes even for kids. Nevermind membership figures are one of them most important metrics for the NRL.

I'm beginning to wonder if the board wants a footy club.

I really don't understand people not getting memberships because they're not getting a ****ty hat or scarf.

I never got a great vibe from Munro for some reason. Not sure why but didn't strike me as someone who would stick around and when he was commenting on the Leagues club reno I knew he wouldn't be here to see it finished.

It doesn't bother me, I will always be a member.

You're kidding yourself though if you think kids want a membership for Xmas with no merch.

It's a brain dead decision from a retarded club.

Munro most definitely wanted to stay. The only way to spin it as a mutual decision is that certain individuals on the board made him want to leave by making his tenure impossible and continually making the workplace an uncomfortable place to be.

I have spoken to both sides and there are completely differing stories but given a gag order has been signed by all involved the story won't be coming out. Who knows where the truth is. One side says that there are deep divisions on the board and some extremely unsavoury characters have taken control- the other that the board is unequivocally united and working towards the same goal as always.

There have been some staggering financial decisions made that will come out in 2021.

Whichever way you slice it this is bad news for the club. What I do know is that the NRL has demanded stability in our coaching and executive management positions and we have been told that there are no more bail outs coming and here we are with more unexpected churn and some very concerning finance stuff on the go. Greenberg needs a big scalp to gain favour with V'landys and playing hardball with a small club which shows all the signs of being a rabble would be a perfect Waterloo for him. Munro had integrity- he wouldnt swallow backwater footy club moves. Everything about this points to the conspiracy theories that we wont be back from Kogarah.

What we need to know is where is the $40 million- how much remains if any and what is it allocated to?

Agree. The fact we supposedly aren't signing Griffin as an assistant because we can't afford him is very, very worrying imo.

I have no problem with this. Craig Sandercock is extremely capable and hard working and comes at a fraction of a cost of Griffin. It seems a sensible business decision.
Paying certain ex players who are mates with board members fat contracts to barely show up to training is more worrying for mine.
