It's pretty much accepted that most halves play better when their forwards are keeping the opposition on the back foot.
You get rare halves that seem to love being up against it and can even seem to play better when their team are on the back foot. Craig Field comes to mind.
Chad ain't one of those rare players though and seems to play twice as well when the team's rolling forward.
