If we were to sign Fergo to say a 3 year deal, we'd be getting him at age 28-30. That's perfect, the peak physical years for a football player. I'd be all over it if we are a legitimate chance.

there aren't that many on the market at right centre that i would take ahead of him

There are a few off options. As far as "rep players" are concerned you have Gagai, Ferguson, SKD, Kahu, Chambers and Beale. James Roberts is also in that tier. As discussed previously the Panthers have a glut of outside back so Hiku could be available too.

We can argue the pros and cons of these particular guys but anyone outside that list would a compromise IMO. IIRC Chambers has ruled out coming to Cronulla, and I don't think James Roberts will leave Brisbane, so realistically I think the list of targets would be something like this ...

1. Gagai
2. Kahu
3. Ferguson
4. Hiku, SKD or re-sign Beale
5. Someone else on the open market

I like Roberts, but he's heads not right. I still think the best option on the market is Gagai, but Newcastle are going to move heaven and earth to keep him I think, might be a bit too much for what we would be willing to pay a guy who's going to be a specialist centre. Part of me says simply to re-sign Beale and keep developing Ramien.
.

He is the goods his head is in the right place would be a great asset ,ambassador(VERY MARKETABLE) and would fit in to our culture.

I don't want SKD. Couple of years back when we needed an attacking force yes but not now. I'd rather have Beale play centre.

I think Fergo for the money he'd want we could spend it more wisely.

For a start he still makes bad defensive reads by coming in when he needs to stay out, also loses track of where his opposing player is or moves to.

Granted he had a good Kangaroo tour, personally I feel he was lucky to get picked I. The first place but ironically he justified his selection.

Back to where he's at now, to me he looks like a truck turning or trying to turn, very cumbersome looking & when he runs now he looks like he is running on a greasy surface & trying not to slip over (even though it's a dry track)

I just think he's one of those players that looks to be losing his tools of the trade quickly.

Gotta agree with your comments re Fergo, he also has a lot of off field issues, baggage..... And he is Bald.

Never picked you as a baldest endevour.

I'm exempt because of the hair on my back but there are probably other follically challenged members on here who could take offence to that statement.

SKD is rank average.
Can't agree with that, the bloke can be explosive but good for many a pomeroy moments with that. Doesn't make him average, just a hits and ****s sorta players

Beale's had a good year prior to injury IMO, been solid and has contributed but wouldn't burst through the backfield like a SKD

If you averaged out his exceptionally good moments and his exceptionally bad moments you could probably argue that SKD is average.

From recent reports his current wage is pretty average too, so he might not cost us much if we wanted to take the gamble.

Beale won't do the brilliant things that SKD is capable of but within our current system I don't think he needs to either. I'd rather have a solid safe option in Beale than the inconsistency of SKD. If we can get a dangerous winger on the outside of Beale then Beale could play the role he played for Val, feed them the ball for tries.

meh who cares. 60 thousand of the people at the grand final last year were probably in the same boat as him

I'd still rather gagai as number 1 pick

Great post. I was amazed at the ridiculous amount of fans that showed up to that. Where have they been?

I used to care about the off field **** (hence my sack fifita comments of 2015), but really who cares. Roosters dont, broncos obviously dont. We took the hardline with carney and still copped **** for that. If theyre good players, get em. If they **** up entirely deal with it then

We are replacing 2-3 roles here - not just one. By the end of 2017 we will have subtracted a fullback (Barba), a centre (Bird) and a utility (Beale) with only a depth winger (Lee) as a replacement. Ideally Capewell becomes that guy in the #17 who can cover backline injuries ... but I think we need to look at one guy to pencil in as the right centre and another who can be the first choice right winger but can play anywhere from 1-5.

Subject to $$ and availability ...

Ideal situation = 2 of Gagai/Kahu/Fergo
Backup plan = 1 of Gagai/Fergo/Kahu + 1 of Beale/SKD/Hiku

I'm happy to have Beale, SKD or Hiku in that wing/utility role, but would prefer to target one of those other players to wear the #3.

Is Nofa still off contract? Can't leave him out of the picture, genuine try scorer and playing like a warrior (not the NZ type lol) in a rubbish team

SKD would be worth rolling the dice on if we don't secure some of those other names and hope the coaching staff can improve his decision making and errors in a Sharks system. You can't coach someone to be a big strong lanky **** ha ha and there's upside to him for sure

The fans have been begging for a new and improved Pomeroy MKII and I'm sure Flanno has a can of orange spray paint in the back shed
