Serious? Yeah I know what it's like down there - My bro lives in Dapto now...
I blame the Gillard govt!
Correct. Considering it faces directly south, you would expect it to be specified to withstand a "worst case scenario" of hurricane strength wind.
Regardless, if the basic engineering design was poor, that would not necessarily matter, a bit like building a castle on quicksand
People said you couldn't build a castle on quicksand... I did anyway and it sunk into the sand. So I built another one!...

Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?
The thing about all of this that I don't get is the engineering side of it.
Surely the required wind rating at that location would have been huge?
If anything, you would have expected the specifications would have had to be over-engineer it.
Have you ever seen that video of the bridge that did it - it was amazing how it was rising & falling many metres like a big wave.

It faces East doesnt it?
No. Nth Gong faces East. Win is Sth Gong
Sorry, should explain there are 2 Gong beaches. They are divided by Belmore Basin/ Flagstaff Hill. One is Nth Gong the other is Sth Gong. Nth Gong is East Facing, where as Sth Beach is Sth facing. Hope that helps
